US-led coalition devastates Raqqa with heavy airstrikes

According to a statement released by the Combined Joint Task Force, the anti-ISIS coalition conducted a total of 32 airstrikes on ISIS insurgents yesterday.

23 of the sorties were conducted in Syria while air raids were especially intense over Raqqa. The statement continued to read that 10 strikes engaged seven ISIS tactical units, destroying three fighting positions, three technicals and destroying two bridges.

US-led airstrikes were also conducted on Islamic State militants near Deir Ezzor and Palmyra, two cities that have Syrian government forces stationed nearby.

No American airstrikes were conducted on ISIS militants at Al-Bab, suggesting some tension between the US and Turkish-backed forces trying to capture the city.

Although the US-led air campaign has propelled the Syrian Democratic Forces to seize ISIS-held villages at an astonishing rate, it has also left large sections of Raqqa in tatters as video footage proves from the city suggests.

I thought Congress had the power to declare War. I must have an outdated copy of the Constitution.

Is it better than you got from CNN?

I don't know. I didn't get anything from CNN. I do find it a little weird, though. If the author isn't in situ he obviously has sources that are. Or maybe it means that he is actually on scene but normally lives in Denmark. Do you have any idea?

What’s the price of a human life destroyed by a “Technical?”

It’s ludicrous for any POTUS to keep hanging onto that AUMF.

It specified use of force against those who planned, carried out or harbored the 911 terrorists.

Obama should have been impeached for it, as should Trump if he doesn’t go to congress and seek something new.

These endless military adventures are anti-Constitutional and illegal.

You are assuming they paid for it... in reality, you can add the $3000 to the $70000, ‘cause we probably paid for both.

Agree we are not at war with Syria however in support of Bashar al Assad as if he is vastly different from the terrorists we are fighting.

32 fighter bombers and helos using precision guided isn’t “Devastating Raqqa with heavy airstikes”.
If we aren’t using B-52 with iron bombs, we aren’t serious about this.

Like 9/11 the destruction of ISIS was a golden opportunity that like 9/11, we will waste. That wasn’t just an opportunity to destroy ISIS, it was a chance to make them into an example that would shock the world and remind them that the USA is very dangerous to screw with.

But we will piss away this offered on a plate opportunity with deft little pinprick strikes that nobody will be impressed with.
COIN sucks. It always sucks, it’s never worked. Only a massive, insulting display of power will work here.

We did pay for them. According to news reports, the CIA supplied several thousand 4WD “jeeps” (media term for Toyota Hilux trucks)

We also paid for several thousand Humvees and few M1 tanks as well.

Outside civilian populated areas, they have used B-52’s. I saw the photos before.

Inside the photo’s were not small but they did not level the city.

“We also paid for several thousand Humvees and few M1 tanks as well.”

They did not go to the Kurds (YPG & YPJ). They went to the FSA trying to overthrow Assad and to Al Qaeda. (Nusra)
