Perhaps this is all a hoax aimed at getting him a new identity and REALLY going into hiding.
Weird. I would suspect cyanide.
The woman choke holded him briefly, then as he gasped for air breathed in some sort of deadly gas or mist.
Makes sense. Upon first reading about the handkerchief in the attack, I figured it was to stifle any shrieks from being injected, and thereby calling attention to the two assailants.

If you look at the video she comes up behind him puts a cloth over his head he struggles she removes the cloth and walks away.....whatever was on that cloth was some powerful stuff.

The first I read was that the assailant splashed a liquid in his face.

So the women assailants were in full bio suits to administer this?
Not necessary. I believe this was a special device designed by NK for this particular mission. Probably had a valve built in so substance would not leak unless squeezed our pushed by hand from the other side.
Some chemicals can be applied transdermally using DMSO.
Compressed air delivery
Micro-powdered Ricin (castor bean) inhaled from the cloth put over his face. Grabbing and restraining caused him to inhale deeply. Net result— bronchial contraction and death. Probable. Not cyanide (prussic acid) as this leaves odor of ‘burnt almonds’ and is diagnostic as is the skin discoloring.

There would be a hell of a lot more dead, including the two assassins. VX can easily be eliminated as the cause. Every emergency person who responded would be dead at the scene.
But what if NK designed a delivery system that can be safely targeted to one individual?
VX seems unlikely in that Kim Jong-nam is not reported to have had the nausea and vomiting that are characteristic of VX poisoning. Cyanide gas is both a better fit with Kim’s fatal cardiac symptoms and has a history of use by the USSR and its allies for assassinations during the Cold War. Of course, the North Korean regime has shown considerable ambition and inventiveness in expanding the art and practice of tyrannical villainy, so it is entirely plausible that they developed and used a novel poison agent.
Delivery isn’t the problem, containment is. Once in the body where there were apparently no puncture wounds, there is no way to keep it there. VX is overkill, plenty of agents and toxins as well as pharmaceuticals are available. The little dicktator would be done using WMD to kill one guy outside of NK.
You were right. Malaysia now says it was VX.
