Schulz, the EU Parliament speaker, is now the man leading the SPD and has been riding high in the polls lately.

Its time for a scandal to be leaked to the media to drive his numbers down.

SPD and CDU (Merkel’s party) are the leading parties and chances are either one of them will lead the new government after the elections are held later this year unless there is dramatic change between now and then.

If you line up a bunch of working-class Germans and lay out the options...most just sit there and laugh.

They actually will have around six parties or candidates to vote for in September.

Most are prepared to see Merkel go (probably two-thirds). No scandals with her entire period...just the immigration crisis.

So you turn to the traditional number two party (the SPD). This Schulz guy is pro-migrant/immigrant and pro-EU to the extreme. With Schulz, you are simply getting Merkel-lite.

Then you turn to the Green Party and their guy Cem Ozdemir...pro-immigration theme. The party has critized the German cops over the past few months and gotten negative attention.

Then you turn to the Linke Party (the former Communists). Their theme is pro-immigration. In three or four of the former East German states, they might get near 25-percent of the vote....but in the west...usually less than 5-percent.

The FDP Party? No one can even remember their candidate’s name.

Then you turn to the AfD Party (the anti-immigration party). They don’t have a large assortment of competent political folks, and it’s mostly a one-topic election that they are running (not a good sign).

This is why Merkel remains a strong possibility of winning.
