THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

COLE PORTER

KISS ME, KATE

By 1948 the current wisdom on Cole Porter was that he was finished, but Cole had a big surprise up his sleeve, and it turned out to be his best musical. “Kiss Me, Kate” ran for years on Broadway and won every award available. Cole thought to the end of his days that it was his best show.

“ANOTHER OP’NIN’, ANOTHER SHOW”

This has become as big an anthem to show business as “That’s Entertainment” or “There’s No Business Like Show Business.” It’s the big chorus that opens the show after the overture. The clip from this 1999 London revival combines the overture and the opening chorus in a clever way.
