By 1948 the current wisdom on Cole Porter was that he was finished, but Cole had a big surprise up his sleeve, and it turned out to be his best musical. Kiss Me, Kate ran for years on Broadway and won every award available. Cole thought to the end of his days that it was his best show.
This has become as big an anthem to show business as Thats Entertainment or Theres No Business Like Show Business. Its the big chorus that opens the show after the overture. The clip from this 1999 London revival combines the overture and the opening chorus in a clever way.
NICELY DONE!
I would have loved to have seen that one live on stage.
Thanks, Publius, for even more GREAT tunes from Cole Porter. simply amazing the length and breadth of his talent. ((HUGS))
