The final decision to establish a “two state solution” lies with the Israelis. Essentially they will have to cede land and political power to the Palestinian Authority. Despite American and Western European pressure what rational leader in Israel would agree to a militarized, independent, essentially hostile Palestinian state adjacent to them? The Israelis learned their lesson when after receiving grave reassurances of peace , they agreed to an independent Palestinian state in Gaza. They had to fight a costly war to protect themselves. The Israelis know that they get to lose just one war and then there will be no further discussions, issues or negotiations.
... emphasizing that Palestine is a geopraphical designation, and is largely comprised of Israel, although you'll note that Jordan is there with the orange.
My point is that the whole idea of a Palestinian State is nothing but a cynical ploy to lay claim to the territory of modern Israel.
