MADRID – Almost 500 migrants forced their way into Spanish territory in North Africa early Friday by breaking through gates in the 20-foot (6-meter) high fence that separates Morocco from Spain's Ceuta enclave.

The Ceuta regional government gave the figures, with officials saying it was believed to be the biggest border invasion in recent years. Ceuta is separated from the rest of Spain by the Strait of Gibraltar.

biggest border invasion in recent years

That's exactly the right wording. Which is why the military should be there, with their guns firing.

This whole invasion sounds a bit like the stories we were taught about the Huns invading Europe. It brought on the Dark Ages.

The Middle East is sort of a modern Dark Ages area. Any signs of modernization are met with stiff resistance and these are supported by our university intellectuals.

Which is why Women, Gays, Christians, Jews, Yazidis, etc. are so terribly persecuted and murdered without consequence.

Almost expecting to hear the story about how 2,000 “migrants” forced their way into San Antonio in March 1836 for “a better life” and basic human rights like cell phones and health care.

Ok, so just health care.

What would have happened if 500 "migrants" had tried to smash the gates of Mark Zuckerberg's estate in California or the one in Hawaii?

As if we didn't know...

Okay, so 10 or so policeman and 10 soldiers were injured, but the only injuries to the invaders were self-inflicted through their actions of breaking in. Why? Were these policemen and soldiers not armed? This is just unbelievable.

It will take force of arms to stop this.

If they are forcing their way in, doesn’t that make them invaders?

I make that point pretty often.

You know, people sometimes talk about the Fall of the Roman Empire as if it were some massive military defeat. That’s not exactly accurate.

It’s true that Rome fought a lot of battles against various barbarians. Rome was in decline militarily for centuries. But the real reason that Rome fell was that a lot of barbarians were allowed to settle within the Empire (they couldn’t be kept out militarily). These barbarians held on to a lot of their ways, and many areas within the Roman Empire became a bit less Latinized and a bit more Barbarian.

We can see that in the US where English is often a secondary language and people are criticized for supporting American traditions.

Eventually, Rome lost a big battle (Adrianople) in 476 and the next Roman Emperor was not a Roman but instead was a barbarian. Just a little like the US electing a Muslim for president.

The Rome Empire suffered from population decline (various plagues in the cities), cultural decline, and competition with a vibrant people who had their own culture and who bred very fast. That’s our situation today.

It is traditional to say that Rome fell because of immorality, but this really isn’t true. At the end. the Roman Empire was a Christian Empire, and the people had standards of behavior that were not objectionable. Their morality wasn’t a problem — the unchecked migration of huge numbers of outsiders was the real problem.

I would add that the Romans were paying the barbarians to defend the empire because of their military decline. But it is amazing that a city could hold such widespread power for centuries. I think the fall was inevitable. and not for moral reasons as many say, but as populations grew in the north and north east, it was just inevitable that Rome couldn’t hold on any more. Why take Roman money to protect Rome when you can take over Rome itself. And splitting the empire into three sections was not exactly unifying. LOL.

And gators. And live ammo.

If the guards at the Spanish gate had fired a few random rounds into the air, this wouldn’t have happened.
