Christian florist loses religious liberty case, will appeal to US Supreme Court

Seattle, Wash., Feb 16, 2017 / 03:35 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- A Washington state florist must pay fines and legal costs for conscientiously objecting to serving a same-sex wedding, as the state’s supreme court upheld a lower court’s decision on Thursday.

“It’s wrong for the state to force any citizen to support a particular view about marriage or anything else against their will. Freedom of speech and religion aren’t subject to the whim of a majority; they are constitutional guarantees,” Kristin Waggoner, senior counsel with the group Alliance Defending Freedom who argued the case before the Washington Supreme Court, stated Feb. 16.

“This case is about crushing dissent. In a free America, people with differing beliefs must have room to coexist,” she added.

Gosh.  The they sure must be glad the Supreme Court will be...

===============

...Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch?  He belongs to a far-left church that embraces marriage redefinition, gun control, and the theory of man-caused global warming.

He belongs to St. John's Episcopal Church in Boulder, Colo., the Episcopal diocese of Colorado confirmed on Wednesday. Church bulletins show that the judge has been an usher three times in recent months. His wife Louise frequently leads the intercessory prayer and reads the weekly Scripture at Sunday services, and his daughters assist in ceremonial duties during church services as acolytes.

The first word that St. John's uses to describe itself on its website and Facebook page is "inclusive," and the church is led by a female rector. On its website, the church encourages members to write letters to Congress asking for actions addressing climate change.

That's not all.  Its website also calls for members to lobby their congressmen for more gun control.

And more:

Rev. Susan Springer has said she is pro-gay marriage and offers blessings to same-sex couples

The church's Rev. Ted Howard also signed a letter slamming the 'disrespectful rhetoric' directed at Islam as Trump floated a ban on Muslim immigrants[.] ...

The four politicized thugs (RBG, Breyer, Soto, and Kagan) will vote against the rule of law and in favor of the anti-freedom demands of the Ctrl-Left. We need Gorsuch immediately, and as many other Trump nominees as possible over the next three years.

Bothers me, too.

I led my family out of an ELCA church over a decade ago because of their social positions - female pastors, blessing gay unions, employee abortion on demand benefit, getting in bed with ECUSA, reinterpreting and neutering the Bible; pure apostasy.

Anyone that stays in such a church condones its message and actions.

Thank you.

There’s an ELCA congregation our family could walk to.

We visited. Heard the message. And drive 15 minutes to an LCMS congregation that isn’t perfect, but at least doesn’t openly teach a doctrine that perverts marriage in the spirit of anti-Christ.

I just hope Gorsuch is on the court before they hear the case:

Both James Dobson and the Southern Baptists are speaking up for Gorsuch. Their support is based on his judicial track record.

The Jewish Religion established the one man-one woman marriage thousands of years ago. Therefore its an establishment of religion based in Judea-Christian doctrine. What part of “shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” is the courts not understanding? Very few things are so firmly established in a s religion as marriage.

Yes we will. Perhaps Gorsuch only championed religious liberty as a judge so far as a head fake. When he gets to the SC, he’ll do a 180.

I hope not. Just not used to winning yet, maybe. Apprehensive, been turned on before.

Understood. The pressure on SC judges must be intense. I thought John Roberts would be a good chief justice, but he caved like a Boehner clone. Sad!

I believe Gorsuch will stay true to his originalist principles. Otherwise, why would the Democrats be in hysteria mode? If they sensed another Roberts in the works, there would be at least a hint of pro forma in their abject caterwauling.

That’s a 12 page PDF.

I was looking more for a one word answer.
