Judge dismisses 1 of 3 charges against Marcus Mumford... (OREGON STANDOFF LAWYER TASED IN COURT)

A federal judge Thursday dropped one of three criminal charges against Marcus Mumford, Ammon Bundy's lawyer, and ruled he'll issue a verdict on the other two charges, not a jury.

U.S. District John C. Coughenour dismissed a charge that accused Mumford of creating a disturbance by impeding the official duties of government officers because it encompassed the same conduct alleged in the second count, failing to comply with official signs that prohibit the disruption of federal officers' official work.

Coughenour declined to grant Mumford a jury trial as requested, or his mission to dismiss all the charges.

Mumford's lawyer Michael Levin has argued that the deputy U.S. marshals engaged in outrageous' government misconduct and lacked authority to wrestle Mumford to the ground and stun him with a Taser gun while he was arguing on behalf of Bundy in a federal courtroom last fall. The scuffle occurred after Bundy was acquitted of all charges on Oct. 27, 2016.....

"Here, the transcript and video footage do not support such a finding," the judge wrote. "The U.S. marshals' conduct does not rise to a level that 'shocks the conscience.'".....

Coughenour said in his ruling: "It appears from the transcript and the courtroom video that defendant interfered with the marshals taking his client into custody.".....

"Defendant was not charged with violating the regulations for making arguments in the courtroom," the judge wrote. "At the heart of the allegations is that the defendant interfered with the U.S. marshals taking custody of his client. A person of ordinary intelligence would understand that interfering with a U.S. marshal removing a defendant who was in their custody following the completion of court constitutes a corruption of the performance of a marshal's duties."

A trial is set for April 13 on the two remaining misdemeanor charges......

The judge dropped one of the charges against the defense lawyer taken down in the courtroom by federal marshals after he won the case for Ammon Bundy in last fall's Oregon Standoff case.

But the other two charges remain and the judges comments I excerpted seem to point to his belief Marcus Mumford did something wrong.

He'll make a ruling from the bench after a trial, a jury will not be involved.

The whole mess in the West, the imprisonment of the Hammonds, the prosecution of the Bundy's and numerous others for the Bunkerville Standoff in 2014 and this prosecution of Ammon Bundy's defense lawyer all seem to cry out for some justice.

President Donald Trump met with the wife of Venezuelan political prisoner Leopoldo Lopez on Wednesday and his picture was taken with her and posted on the president's Twitter feed. President Trump called for the release of Lopez.

It was a great thing that the POTUS did, but there are other great things to be done.

Something should be done about some prisoners (the Bundys and others) sitting in Nevada jails right now, the Hammonds jailed as terrorists in a California federal prison for lighting a backfire to protect their land, about this federal government prosecution of a defense lawyer taken down when defending his client in a courtroom.

Dang straight President Trump should be stepping in.

If he has time for a Venezuelan woman he needs to MAKE time for these American families who have been improperly held and charged under the Obama regime.

What filthy swine Federal judges have become. I watched the video, the _marshalls_ had no right to attack the attorney. He was representing his clients and the court had no authority to hold the defendants after being found guilty.

This is not USA law in action, this is Maritime Law being executed on dry land. Our fathers would _never_ have put up with the slow transition of real USA citizen, into serfs.

I hate to tell the judge that even I was shocked by the US marshal’s behavior.

From the judge’s statement you can bet a ‘guilty’ verdict is coming.

I continue to believe this is a travesty of justice.

Mumford deserves a trial before a jury of his peers...other defense lawyers, specifically, but everyday citizens failing that.

The judge won’t allow it, because justice is perverted, and it’s hard to keep it perverted if it’s put in the hands of the fair and balanced.

I quite seriously doubt this lawyer attacked officers of the court trying to bring his client under control.

Right to a trial by a jury is a constitutional right is it not? Can someone explain to me, why a person who was just acquitted, would then be taken into custody? Is he not free to go?

God Bless President Trump but something needs to be done by the Justice Department.

Federal prosecutors need to be cleaned out as has been an SOP for the Dems when they take over regardless of the circumstances.

A lot of pardons, commutations, whatever can be done in regards to matters out West.

One of the prisoners in Nevada for Bunkerville supported Donald Trump for POTUS to the point of being co-chair of Veterans for Trump in New Hampshire for last year’s primary election. Gerry DeLemus and many others need to be released.

Not to be flippant, but am I the only person who reads this headline and thinks, “Why is that British bluegrass guy in trouble and why is it on Free Republic.?”
