Workers at Boeing's South Carolina plant reject union

Boeing Co (BA.N) handily defeated a union drive by workers at the company's aircraft factory in South Carolina on Wednesday, as almost three-quarters of workers at the plant who voted rejected union representation.

The secret ballot vote, conducted by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) at polling locations throughout the North Charleston plant, was the first for Boeing and a high-profile test for organized labor in the nation's most strongly anti-union state.

Boeing said in Facebook post that 74 percent of the 2,828 workers who cast ballots voted against joining the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).

“We will continue to move forward as one team,” Joan Robinson-Berry, vice president in charge of Boeing South Carolina, said in the post.

In a statement, IAM lead organizer Mike Evans said: “We’re disappointed the workers at Boeing South Carolina will not yet have the opportunity to see all the benefits that come with union representation.”

“We’re disappointed the workers at Boeing South Carolina will not yet have the opportunity to see all the benefits that come with union representation.”

Not to mention the millions of dollars in union dues that they would use to elect DemocRats.

The same union that tried to keep the plant from opening in the first place still has the audacity to call a vote to unionize the workers whose jobs they tried to steal.. some people simply have no shame.

And Sadly, they actually got 25% of the workers to vote for it... some people simply have no brains.

Very good.Hopefully Boeing,in return, will make a vigorous effort to pay a fair wage and provide good working conditions in exchange for skill and an honest day's work.

That way the workers, the company *and* (because Boeing is one of our most important exporters) the nation will benefit.

Its very rare that a union is good for the workers, the company or its customers. The way to protect workers is with laws and lots of choice in jobs. Not by forcing workers to join a union. That is just a cancer on a company that stifles change and quality and adds to costs.

I've been convinced for years that the only ones who benefit from unions are the leadership.

Sadly my own daughter is probably one of the 25%. She left my home at age 14 to live with her liberal mother in Charleston. She is now 39 and working for Boeing. Happy to see the SC workers see that the union way is corrupt and confiscatory.

I agree. Its like a business, like a wasll street broker or an insurance salesman. They get as many company workers as they can. And they get a small part of all of their pay. Gradually you can afford a big house. And it only takes .05% of thousands of workers who can’t afford to give you anything.

As my dad said about the IAM (he had to be a member at Pratt, but he was in management). He said the IAM is a Commie organization, and Wimpy (the IAM president at the time) is a hard left Commie...

Great Job BA, you don't need someone who steals your money to help you.
