Federal authorities have charged the man who was arrested by federal immigration agents last week in an incident in Northwest Austin that left one man injured.
Mexican national Hugo Baltazar-Ramirez was charged with assaulting a federal deportation officer.
Baltazar-Ramirezs arrest on Friday is what alerted many in the Austin area to increased U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement action in an operation called Operation Cross Check that led to 51 arrests in the Austin area.
The action has prompted outcry from Mayor Steve Adler and from the public through several protests in North Austin.
The U.S. attorneys office said Baltazar-Ramirez, 23, ran from an ICE officer after he was informed that he was being arrested. When the agent caught up, the two struggled and Baltazar-Ramirez hit the agents head against the ground several times, the U.S. attorneys office said in a statement released Tuesday.
Baltazar-Ramirez could face 20 years in prison if convicted. The FBI is investigating the incident.
This is the one whose family jumped at the officer, right? At the DPS @ 183/Hymeadow?
Can you imagine what would happen to me if I punched a cop in Tijuana?
Let another country imprison these creeps on a contract basis.Turkey has some nice prisons, let them take ‘em.
Or Guantanamo. No pass for the soccer field, and burritos 3x per day. Oh was that cultural appropriation? Give him bologna sandwiches on white bread, and yellow mustard then. If it is good enough for me, it should be good enough for some criminal alien living illegally in my country.
Devil’s Island was the French.
He won’t get that much time, but he will get deported, hopefully after the wall is done.
Six of your friends would be carrying you by the handles. Mexican PD prefers the .45ACP and have the Rule of Flight standard for justified shootings. (Attacking is evidence of attempting to escape. Attempting to escape is an admission of guilt. Bang, bang, bang, bang...)
And we have to pay for his care while imprisoned.
Give him 3.9 years hard labor helping to build the wall, then drop him off in the Gulf of Mexico in a leaky dinghy with his last meal. Preferably in the path of a tropical storm.
[We need to bring back Devils Island ...]
Maybe it’s time to open up Alcatraz again.
Arrange to pay his housing in a Mexican prison for a fraction of the price.
Well it would totally depend on how much cash and jewelry you had.
Oh, that's rich. So few know what you are talking about. Awesome place for those kind of people. Makes Guantanamo look like kindergarten school.
