Trump tends to talk in sound bites (tweets). I think we should hear the official response from Sean Spicer. If Flynn did anything wrong or even anything that would continue to distract, then its best to have him step aside.
Flynn did lie the Vice President and maybe others. Flynn’s resignation letter admitted that

Flynn was canned for lying to VP Pence about the phone calls, not for the phone calls themselves.
