Koreas Conservatives Fight Back
South Koreas democracy gets a strong defense against those who would impeach the president and imperil U.S.-Korea relations.

As South Koreas constitutional court weighs whether to ratify the impeachment of Park Geun-hye, her allies are starting to fight back. The conservative leaders approval rating may have dropped to 4% in November, yet right-wingers are belatedly organizing to defend her against accusations of corruption and, more plausibly, to block the left from walking to victory in the next presidential election.

S. Korea would face its existential crisis if the domestic political situation turns in the wrong direction, clashing with the strategic interest of U.S.. This will embolden N. Korea and could invite drastic action from U.S.. Both economy and national security of S. Korea can suffer. In normal times, the left can sustain their momentum and have smooth sailing to power. This time around this could lead to immediate international disaster.
Her father was a hard-liner, a strongman, but really helped in improving that country. I was on duty at I Corps G-2 the night he was assassinated. What a hullabaloo that was!
I was in OsanAB on vacation that night. Swiftly put on a C-130 out of country the next morning. Fun times.
I Corps was both ROK and US, combined. At first we assumed the North Koreans had killed him, as they killed his wife years earlier in their commando raid on the Blue House. I went TDY to Osan during a Team Spirit exercise. Their “ville” was a little different than ours, with a slightly better class of bar girls, it seemed to me. And of course, Air Force food was better and more varied than Army.
It is good to see them flying so many South Korean and American Flags!
You don't see that too many other places.
One of the reasons why I Love Korea.
