There were rookie errors. Nothing that’s happened is as bad as Susan Rice’s lies to the media about Benghazi being caused by a video. It’s already looking better with AG Sessions in place. I don’t understand the reasoning of the ‘pubs in not getting Sessions confirmed first. As it happened, it didn’t take but a few hours to replace him with another Republican Senator.
My guess, and it's only a guess, is that by having deVos confirmed first, the Dems would already have to have spent some of their political capital (i.e., vitriol) on her, making it less likely for them to dump the whole load on Sessions. A few days isn't going to make a difference in the long run.
