After years of debate, Yale University announced Saturday it will change the name of a residential college that honors a 19th century alumnus and former U.S. vice president who was an ardent supporter of slavery.

Yale trustees said the Ivy League university is renaming Calhoun College after trailblazing computer scientist Grace Murray Hopper, a mathematician who earned Yale degrees in the 1930s, invented a pioneering computer programming language and became a Navy rear admiral.

So Yale is going the old Soviet route of erasing history.

But at least they decided to rename the residential college after someone worthy of the honor. Adm. Hopper truly was a remarkable woman.

Side note: Yale's founder, Elihu Yale, was a corrupt man who brutally suppressed native revolts while while President of the East India Company. Not a nice guy. I therefore demand that Yale University change its own name. Ben Carson graduated from Yale. So I suggest Ben Carson University.

Now that that issue is settled, when is Yale going to fix the ‘Rat run, Urban Utopia of New Haven?

More hypocritical actions by the left. They want the entire population slaves to the government but then they claim “oh but we don’t recognize those who support slavery”. Same with their Nazi name calling. They call everyone who doesn’t adhere to their leftist insanity “Nazis” yet they are the ones who are pulling their own versions of Kristallnacht, smashing store windows, burning cars, attacking, threatening anyone who isn’t left.

Yale and other liberal institutions need to face up to the complexities of their (our) own history, NOT erase it with a politically-correct feminazi “fix”!!!!

John C Calhoun was a complex figure in US history, who for good and for bad, helped make us what we are!!!!

And it is interesting that he was a Yale alum, not from some Southern university.

Yep. If you look hard enough, every famous American is/was flawed in some way. Andrew Jackson, for example, stopped the British at New Orleans. But he also was a slaveholder.

It is the liberal way to ignore their own flaws, and to magnify the flaws of everyone else.

That is why I encourage liberals to send me all their Andy Jackson twenty-dollar bills, so I can dispose of them properly.

Andrew Jackson should REMAIN on the 20-dollar bill!!!!

What is going to happen (replacement with that ugly picture of Harriet Tubman) is another feminazi fix!!!!

After what happened with that traitorous “Women’s March”—led by a horrible hijabi—most of us KNOW we do not want ANY feminazi fixes of history or of anything else!!!!

So when they took the guy's name off the door, I hope Yale did the right thing and refunded all the money he donated to get his name on the door in the first place. Along with accumulated interest.

It would be the appropriate thing to do, after all.

Eating their own. Guy was basically a Democrat except his small foray with the Whigs. Another way of looking at it is a bunch of liberals and Demos at Yale trying to whitewash Democratic Party members from history so we don’t see how prominent proponents of slavery they were.

Harriet Tubman was a devout Christian, and a gun totin’ Republican.

Please don’t tell the liberals that! They’ll drop their support ofTubman, and push for Chelsea Manning on the $20 bill instead.

Subtlety of thought or a deep understanding of history is not a hallmark of liberalism.

They remove the name of a benefactor from centuries past, but embrace Islam which still embraces slavery today.

The fact that the anti-slavery movement was vehemently Republican and that the NRA was formed to support the right of African-American citizens to bear arms and both were bitterly opposed by Democrats does seem to be left out of historical discourse I find.

Just as in the UK it is never mentioned that the founder of the anti-slavery movement was a devoutly Christian, conservative, white, English man, William Wilberforce, and in those five aspects of his character he personified all that is supposedly evil in progressive historical teaching.

The “It’s just a start” crowd is already complaining that “invested” is needed now that the name has been changed. BTW, every DEC employee knows that the Adm. did not invent the compiler. She developed the Bootstrap Loader. I can still seeing myself toggle it in on a PDP-11. 777564 /1000

If you asked Jackson, he’d be the first to call for the renaming of Calhoun College. Jackson once said his biggest regret was not hanging John C. Calhoun. Calhoun was a scoundrel and a traitor.
