It is funny how the world is spending billions in security because of these Dark Ages mutants.

The fact is that no one knows who did this, or why. Statues have long been targets for vandalism in Catholic churches. When I was a kid, someone stole a large statue from my (Catholic) church and dumped it in a canal two miles away.

A quick Google search will reveal numerous stories - many from the last year or two - about Catholic churches all around the country being vandalized in various ways: statues smashed or beheaded, pulpits smashed, tabernacles stolen or smashed, crucifixes smashed or inverted, communion wafers scattered on the floor, paintings defaced or stabbed, human feces smeared on religious objects or left on the floor, obscene graffiti, pro-gay graffiti, pro-Islam graffiti, etc.

I found all that in a five-minute search. I would therefore hesitate to attach any specific meaning to the hands being cut off of this statue.

This was fifty years ago, but I think it was a statue of Mary. That church was/is called Church of the Assumption.

Yeah, just a few months ago two or three Catholic churches were vandalized somewhere in Washington. It briefly made the news, but generated no outraged editorials, no shows of solidarity that I’m aware of, and launched no task forces.

It's considered a crime, but the liberal Rage-O-Meter barely wiggles. But when a gay bar or mosque is vandalized, the Rage-O-Meter goes to the max position.
