She may or may not be, but at best she's one sixty fourth part Cherokee, apparently because one of her white ancestors was a guard accompanying the Cherokee along the Trail of Tears who supposedly fathered a child off one of his prisoners. So besides being descended from what any modern international court would classify as a War Criminal, the scandal is that Warren used that (probably apocryphal) family legend to claim benefits set aside for Native Americans.

A lot of people, including myself, can claim some Indian ancestry. We may even, as I do, have some documentation for it on both my mother's (Lenape/Delaware) and father's (Cherokee) sides. But when it's so far back in time no tribe will recognize a person as a tribal member. I've certainly never claimed any benefits for two hundred year old accidents of birth. What Warren did was out and out fraud.

Don’t blast Pocahontas this way; she was a treasure and used the name Rebecca.

And what any modern liberal Democrat would classify as rape.

Does anybody really think that a modern Democrat feminist would consider sex between a male guard and a female captive as anything but rape?

Yes out and out fraud. I have an ancestor on the Dawes Roll but family tribal membership was not kept up with (my great grandmother deliberately hid her heritage to live and raise her children as white) and one of his Grandsons tried to join the tribe and was denied even with poof of that. Years ago if one could document a connection they could become a member of the tribe. At some point the Cherokees said it didn’t matter what you could prove if your immediate family was not a member of the tribe you were out of luck.

In order to claim Native American status for jobs, or business purposes or other advantages you have to be an actual member of a tribe. In at least most tribes if not all you have to have a census number yourself to make such a claim. A family story about an ancestor sleeping with someone who was a Native American is just not going to get it!
