Deputies told the station the person killed was 19 and was shoplifting diapers with three accomplices.
They were loading the diapers in a car when a Walmart employee tried to stop them, the station reported.
The shopper told deputies that he showed up at that point to assist the store employee.

Deputies said after the gunfire the four suspects drove off and smashed into two cars.
Three got away on foot. The one who was shot made it as far as a gas station across the street.

I can’t know what went on. I do hope the shooter was definitely fearing for his life.
It would be terrible to go through life knowing you killed some kid over some stolen diapers worth less than a hundred or two dollars.
Carrying is a big responsibility. You have to keep your wits about you. Perhaps this guy did.

I was an idiot when I was a kid. I didn’t do anything like this, but good grief. You never know what will escalate and cost you your life these days.

It says that one reached into the car and the guy with the gun in hand thought he was going for a gun. If he said nothing else and asked for an attorney he should be okay. The carjacking that preceded this won’t endear the dead guy to a jury. I saw Wl Mart-Florida and looked quickly to see which town. I know a vet with some unattended PTSD who has a Glock which he has used several times as a third party (never fired) to end altercations. I have watched D. go downhill and have worried he was going to shoot someone without the necessary prov. He was often at one of the local WalMarts and would pursue someone if he saw him stealing. He always carries.
There is no tragedy here except for possibility hubris on the part of the dead guy in thinking himself immune to lead.
Hey, maybe you could sell that as a script to La Raza or BLM, whichever is relevant.
