The commander of US forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, has lined up tanks on Poland’s border with Russia and fired salvos that the general says are a message to Russia, not a training exercise.

My nephew is in Poland with that group. They were ordered there by 0bama way back in 2015. You can’t turn around a Brigade and send them home within 2 weeks.
I call BS on this article for probably not having the full picture. Whenever you do a military training exercise such as is happening in Central Europe right now you don’t just “stand down” super fast and thus waste all the experience & lessons learned that the soldiers & support staff in the Units (and their support Units) involved are going through as part of the process. It would waste tens of millions of dollars to just abandon the exercises going on and severely harm morale for those involved.
Trump has just been President for 2 weeks now. His SecDef has just been in place for 1 week now. The last thing a SecDef should do when they get started is make drastic cuts to research/development/training activities in-process.

There are also a lot of just plain stupid generals! And then there are soldiers like during the Civil War who chose the opposing side.
They are corrupt if they are political while serving in the military. Those should be rooted out.
Trump needs to flush out all the top brass Obama put in place when he engineered his purge of America loving military men. And he needs to do it soon.
I looked Hodges up on wiki and the only inkling of politics I coud find was that he believed that Brexit would threaten NATO. He was appointed in 2014, so an Obama appointee. I sure hope Trump can quickly get all areas of his Military on board or the Obamaites will surely destroy us.

The Army is in Poland to support one of our strongest allies in Europe. Poland does not share a border with Russia proper, although the tiny Kaliningrad enclave adjoins it. I support the Army and the troops on their mission.
Ignoring his actions is simply foolish, although I find it increasingly irritated that the Europeans (especially Germany) refuse to pull their weight in NATO.
We should come up with a reasonable defense response and its cost, and if the Europeans don't pony up the forces, we send them the bill. Or we reform NATO with countries that take their responsibilities seriously.
