After the dramatic departure of Tamron Hall from Today, TV insiders are buzzing that Megyn Kelly could next unseat Savannah Guthrie as the star co-anchor with Matt Lauer.
Multiple sources tell Page Six that Kelly is likely to take the lead role on the NBC morning show with Lauer when she starts in September. Guthrie, who recently signed a new long-term deal with Today, could be bumped to another role or even take over Halls 9 a.m. slot, were told.
NBC is not paying Megyn $12 to $15 million a year to be on at 9 a.m. The word is that Savannah could take the 9 a.m. slot and Megyn will go right in at 7 a.m. Andy Lack is completely behind all of this, a source told us, adding, Theres no way Megyn would have signed with NBC unless she was promised a big role down the line.
Guthrie is currently out on maternity leave and sources told Page Six she has been kept in the dark about what Kellys role will be.
If youre Savannah, youre looking over your shoulder every minute. The first time Savannah is out, Megyn will fill in, sitting next to Matt Lauer and NBC will go to great lengths to capitalize on it. It doesnt make sense to pay Megyn that kind of money unless shes on at 7 a.m., another source said.
But NBC execs insist they will not be swapping out Guthrie for Kelly. Let me say this for the last time and as clearly as possible: This is never ever going to happen, Noah Oppenheim, SVP of Today, told us.
Kellys rep added, This is unequivocally false.

She’s toxic. Not just her attitude, but the fact that she came from Fox. NBC sheep have been groomed to believe anything connected to Fox is evil, so they’ll reject Kelly.
It’s going to be fun to watch.

Any idiot who thinks Megyn will attract much of an audience for an early show like this....is simply fooling themselves. It’ll take less than a hundred days for them to admit this was a really stupid idea.
Rating to plummet even more. I guess that would be less than zero except in the d.c. metropolis market?
Zzzzzz.
It blew-up on them with Deborah Norville, who even today, at age 58, is hotter than Kelly.
Better get your resume up to date, Matt...
The American Media: Where the important news stories are stories about the news.
Good observation...
Ah yes, the famous megyn “cuttin’ the cheese” pic......not sure what that other thing is.
Meagain was hated by her old colleagues at Fox and is hated by her new colleagues at NBC before she’s even started...
she’s going to need to add a food taster to her entourage...
“Any idiot who thinks Megyn will attract much of an audience for an early show like this....”
Doesn’t the hiring of Megyn go along with the network’s intention of making their news a little more conservative.
I think the possibility of tension between Megyn and the existing hosts will help ratings.
A cheese sniffer.
A morning show is not a good fit for her at all. They should fire that idiot Lester Holt from the nightly news and put Kelly in his place.
There is definitely a double standard when it comes to TV news anchors. Most "journalists" are nothing but pretty faces in the first place. A woman gets a prime spot on local or national news, and has to worry when she hits her 40's and 50's because a younger pretty woman is ready to take her spot. Meanwhile, Matt Lauer goes from handsome young anchor to balding, gray-bearded putz and is in no danger of being phased out for a younger hotter dude.
Not in any way. Now, if their goal was to make the network more OPPORTUNIST, well then Kelly is the right bimbo for the job.
