President Trumps out-of-the-box pick to lead the Education Department survived another hurdle, overcoming an attempted Democratic filibuster in a rare pre-dawn vote Friday.
A final vote is slated for Monday.
Democrats have made Betsy DeVos, the pick, one of their chief targets as they try to score a scalp from among Mr. Trumps Cabinet nominees, saying the wealthy philanthropist doesnt have the experience or dedication to public schools to run the federal department. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer called her one of the worst nominees that has ever been brought before this body for a Cabinet position.

If Schumer doesn’t like her then you know she’s the perfect one for the job.
Good, I want to see the overpaid K-12 administrators start crying, along with the union bosses.
Everyone on FR should mail a box of tissues after she passes the votend on Monday.
There’s still at least 2 soros funded republicans who say they won’t vote for her. This in no way is a slam dunk with 5 very squishy, probably soros funded republicans in the senate.
“an attempted Democratic filibuster”
DEMOCRAT you moron. I can see where you could think that
Democrat Ick!
What an insult to President Trump after all he’s done for the Republican Party. They can’t get her through? VP Pence will have to vote? C’mon...
Ryan refused her signing pen. If anyone does that in the future Trump should take it and say...I think I will give this to.....and pocket it.
Maybe he should start giving the signing pens to the public or members of the military instead of Congress who use them to curry favor with people.
I need some Schadenfreude Salve.
I suspect that McConnell has an extremely accurate whip count and “allowed” those two to vote against DeVos knowing that the nomination will be approved anyway. They probably asked permission to vote the way they will to keep the union money flowing. This sort of thing is very common in legislatures.
Btw, Trump - I will take ANY signing pen refused by a member Congress ;-)
And proudly display it!
Also, Trump is killing that God-awful fiduciary investment rule!
Killing Dodd Barney Frank rule was just as important it’s a big win.
I expected the democrats to win this one, and I wondered if she was chosen specifically to give the democrats a small and unimportant win that would satisfy their rebellious base. Apparently, I was wrong, and I’m more than okay with that.
Recently I was talking to a fellow who told me he was a corporate compliance expert. That's because Dodd-Frank is such a convoluted beast that he and many others had dedicated their careers to understanding how to comply with it. At this point he said he was actively looking at other options in fear that Dodd-Frank could be repealed. He's a smart one who will get out early, the ones who have too much inertia will be in trouble as this bad law is unravelled. They will probably suffer for a short time, but hopefully Trumponomics will have unleashed the nations economy and they will find new things to do rapidly.
It’s going to be quite the spectacle when the teachers and administrators start rioting, pepper spraying the kids, and burning their own schools to the ground.

This is why they fear Ms. DeVos
“Ryan refused her signing pen.”
Where’d you get that?
I couldn’t find the reference for context.
I saw it with my own eyes. You have to watch the whole clip as they get ready to leave the day Trump was signing all of those orders.
He noticed it. I don’t think he was happy about it.
IIRC, Susan Collins received chump change from Teachers’ Unions last year, around $5,000.
In comparison, Murkowski is a professional call-girl. It took over $50 grand to buy her favors.
