What I saw as Trump was leaving the Capitol hallway to go out onto the portico for the ceremony was inspiring. Everyone else was smiling and he walked alone solemnly. You could sense that the enormous weight of responsibility of the office he was about to assume was very real to him as he fully appreciated that within minutes he would be the 45th president of the United States.

It was clear he understood the loneliness of it all. It was a profoundly noble moment.

Whenever I see surveillance or traffic cameras, I always think at the other end is some layabout government drone, or better/worse yet, an empty room with dozens of blurry monitors.

No, the worry/concern was coming off him in waves as he descended the stairs. This guy’s done thousands of entries into celebratory situations, and his sudden unease and non-communication told me something was *wrong*. It was, as it turns out.

You can’t compare “celebrity” to the presidency. It changes you in ways that only 5 other living individuals can appreciate, and it’s one of the reasons that ex-presidents form a unique fraternity regardless of their political differences. It was clear to me that he was sensing the weight of history.

I respectfully disagree, and as a fellow Austinite. I felt his controlled concern. Empathically. I can feel unease.

Learning this is doubly disturbing when DC agreed to have officers turn off ALL their cameras unless confronted.

I think I had heard that one of the reasons for being off was because of all the street cameras.

ACLU and BLM were very active in suing to have cameras off claiming it wasn’t ‘fair’ to the demonstrators.

If they were worried about being ID’d, maybe they should have just stayed home.

Also there were supposedly DC cops that said they would not be ‘upset’ if there were trouble.

One of the reasons the Police Union ‘supposedly’ went along with the no camera on was because ALL the police didn’t have them.(Cops etc brought in from all over the country).
