Two people in London have been arrested for hacking and disabling 70% of the DC police CCTV cameras ahead of President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Authorities believe that the duo was conducting a test run to attack again on inauguration day. The hack was carried out on January 12, and cameras remained disabled through the 15th when police discovered the cameras were not functioning.
Of the 187 security cameras in the district, 123 of them were disabled during the attack.
The cameras were disabled by ransomware that had been left on the system. Washington DC’s Chief Technology Officer, Archana Vemulapalli, confirmed that the city did not pay any ransom, and fixed the issue by taking the cameras offline, removing the software, and restarting the system, the Washington Post reports.
“Ransomware is now among the most used malware attack by hackers. From smart TV, hotel doors locks, hard drives, railway’ fare system, health service system or Android devices nothing is secure from this threat,” Hack Read explains. “However, when it comes to CCTV camera systems in the United States it is not surprising that hackers sitting miles away were able to take over security cameras operated by world renowned police department. There are thousands of unprotected CCTV cameras vulnerable to hackers.”
The identities of the attackers has not been released, but they are both reportedly 50-years-old. The woman who was arrested is from Sweden, while the male suspect is British.
“Inquiries are ongoing and we are unable to provide further information at this time,” the statement from the National Crime Agency says.
According to a statement from the NCA, “officers executed a search warrant at an address in Natal Road, SW16, on the evening of Thursday 19 January.”
Both suspects have been released on bail, and are scheduled to appear in court in April.
So it took the cops more than two days to figure out that 70% of the cameras weren’t working?
Totally believable.
I thought all the Trumps looked stressed during the inauguration - right until they got inside and the parade started. Then they smiled and relaxed.
Knowing all this was going on, they were very courageous, and in fact, were putting their own children in danger for us and our country.

If these cameras were working on Jan 20, why haven’t we seen more/any pictures of the blockading of security entry points? At least my dismay at our horrible treatment is softened by having DJT in the White House. It could be Hillary.
The use of “ransomware” should be a felony.
The punishment should be the potential damage such software could cause rather than what it actually causes.

I don’t know if you’ve seen the inaugaration video clip the lefties have been passing around of mrs. Trumps facial expression change right after President Trump says something to her. They claim it’s proof of verbal abuse and how cowed she is, but I wonder if it wasn’t a reminder about what to do if shit went down.
These people are international... these arent some college flunkies... someone was trying to blind the law enforcement during inauguration... this smells of assassination.

I saw a clip where the camera looked over President Trump’s shoulder from behind after his speech, he was asking Melania how he had done. She gave him a look and nod of approval - it was cute.
Perhaps this was the Left’s last Hail Mary. The same levels of dissasociation like between vote fraudsters and the DNC kept them from knowing the fix, indeed, wasn’t in this time until after the fact.
Put them in an underwater prison... with their life support systems handled by an unsecured website. Let them see what havoc "hacking" causes, "up close & personal".
And, the commander of NG in DC was let go two days before. He missed both the weapons being found by the hiker, Roger Stone’s infiltration of J20, and other threats.
Donna mentioned the stress at inaug, it was actually over every .gov attendee. No joy, no expression in anybody. Maybe the threat WAS that serious.
