...the consensus was that the term “black” is outdated, and the more appropriate way to refer to the community is “African American.”


I always thought the term “black” was deliberately focused on skin color (obviously) and divisive (black / white).

My feeling is similar...

“Black” refers to skin color..
“African American” refers to heritage, and this history of those Americans of African decent that made an impact in our nation’s history.

Black/AA History month honors Americans. Not Black Europeans, West Indian natives, or those in the continent of Africa.
