(Texas Gov.) Abbott carries out threat to yank state funding (for Austin) in 'sanctuary' dispute

In a major escalation of the state's battle against local governments refusing to comply with federal immigration laws, Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday moved to immediately carry out his promise to withhold grant money to Travis County because of a new jail policy he contends makes Texas' capital a "sanctuary city."

[Snip]

Abbott's announcement comes as Hernandez enacted a new policy Wednesday under which she will detain inmates on behalf of federal immigration officials only when they are charged with murder, sexual assault or human smuggling.

The new policy changes a longstanding agreement that allowed agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to place "immigration holds" or "detainers" on Travis County inmates - no matter the seriousness of the crime for which they are arrested - when agents want to further investigate their status.

But critics have said the process results in deportations of people for relatively minor crimes.

He's also threatening to take over the county and city governments and throw the elected officials out of office ... Libtards there are throwing a fit ... the governor's popularity has hit an all-time high virtually everywhere else in the state.

And the Leftist media in Austin, where even the Fox station spouts Democrat doctrine, is already digging up sob stories about poor government workers who are going to lose their jobs because of the funds being cut. If Austin wasn’t a haven for illegals, the homeless and the drug addicted, there wouldn’t be a need for all the social services who consume millions of tax dollars every year.

Gov Abbott also needs to include this in his plans.

BREITBART REPORTED: “Among the terror jihadists that travel back and forth through our porous southern border w/ Mexico is a Kuwaiti named Shaykh Mahmood Omar Khabir, an ISIS operative who lives in the Mexican state of Chihuahua not far from El Paso, Texas,” US authorities reported.

According to US intelligence, Khabir now provides training to thousands of jihadis – mostly from Syria and Yemen – at a base in near Ciudad Juarez, which is located just across the border from El Paso, Texas.

US authorities discovered this blockbuster during an investigation of food stamp fraud in a NJ bodega, as they looked into the store's wire-transfers (remittances).

They all seemed to trace back to one or two accounts in Mexico City.

Cooperating with Mexican Authorities, it soon became apparent that the bodega was aiding and abetting terror. Laundered money was wire-transferred from the bodega to terror cells in Mexico.

Perhaps we should investigate all Bodegas and stop giving “immigrants” from Yemen financial help to open businesses since they seem to find ways to fund terrorism.

Okay by me.....

.....but we need to explicitly emphasize the Mexico/terror/finance connection....

.....b/c Mexico is trying to hide it.

Ummm, well, if they are here illegally, shouldn’t they be deported anyway? Why are they here, if not in accordance with the law? Why am I expected to follow our laws, but they are not?
