Canned bacon? Where do you find that? Never heard of it.

And people ask why we raise our own hogs.

Because bacon is a gift pigs give you when you are good. :)

Makes me glad I learned to make my own :)

I’m having some of my homemade bacon for dinner tonight. Sliced thin on a pizza, with lots of extra cheese.

There are LOTS of feral hogs running around causing significant damage - they are considered an “invasive species” in some states. You can’t sell feral hog meat legally, but you can hunt them & make some mighty tasty hams, sausage & yes, even bacon for yourself. The only issue with feral hogs for bacon is that they are pretty lean & don’t have a lot of belly fat - sources I’ve read say you need about a 300 lb wild hog for bacon.

Precautions apply when handling wild meat - wear gloves, properly care for the meat & cook thoroughly.

We buy the whole pig. After butcher costs it works out to 2 bucks a pound for all cuts.

Obviously its being scarfed up and stockpiled somewhere.

I just had a vision of squadrons of heavy lift aircraft all making a bacon bombing run upon Mecca like something out of a ww2 Germany bombing movie.

Canned bacon link - see below. It’s in our earthquake/disaster kit. Don’t buy it at Walmart - it’s about 2x more expensive.

https://www.amazon.com/Yoders-Canned-Fully-Cooked-Bacon/dp/B006YXOOI6/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1485993304&sr=1-1&keywords=canned%2Bbacon&th=1

It isn’t the canned bacon of my youth, that one was uncooked bacon and all the slices were rolled up in a wax paper. Gawd, it was salty but as a kid I loved it.

In Arizona we have wild Javelina. My house in Payson is on Javelina Rd. Some of my friends hunt them and eat the bacon and ribs.

When we were buying the house we were standing outside in the back yard with the realtor. Three javelina’s came around from the other side of the house and wandered off into the forest behind the house. I turned to the realtor and told him “If the house had been on grizzly road, the deal would be OFF!”

I got a gift (free!) of 12#s of awesome custom made bacon.
It is no longer in my freezer. It just didn’t last long.

Remembering a few years back that Burger King had a sundae with bacon in it. I liked it, but they discontinued it within a few months or so.

Seems that feral hogs populations are exploding nearly everywhere. I say, break out the Winchesters.

I was fine till I read this thread.
I need to go make me some bacon.

BTW, what’s the difference between pig bacon and turkey bacon?
I find it very confusing.

Someone gave me a package of turkey bacon. It’s been in my freezer for months. It just doesn’t look right.

I loved that canned bacon. The wax paper had about a half inch of lard stuck to it. Searched the internet a while back and it’s not out there. If I recall correctly it was imported by DAK from Denmark.
