I won’t tell my story of woe again, but I lost a husband and a son to Oxy. It’s awful stuff.

Terrible story, but what can be done? My wife is a medical doctor, and the amount of people seeking addictive drugs is staggering.

How can a medical doctor determine who is a druggie vs who is in deep pain?

The risk of losing your medical license is real, I have known two medical doctors who were deemed too liberal in their prescriptions and lost their licenses.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Too bad THC isn’t legal in most states. Works good for pain among other health problems, is less expensive, and by itself no overdose deaths. But the pharmaceutical industry lobbies against it.

Had Prager's relative had access to the pain killers he needed without having to face the complications he apparently did in obtaining them, it appears from Prager's account that it is more likely that his relative would not have chosen to take his life.

Respectfully, while I am sorry for your loss, Oxycontin, like any other drug product approved by FDA for marketing, is safe and effective when prescribed as used, as labeled.

FReegards!

Totally different circumstances. Hopefully you will never experience constant excruciating pain and be denied any relief. Drugs that are given t0 deal with pain management may not seem necessary to you, but they indeed are when certain situations call for them.

I took it temporarily as prescribed. It helped me sleep, but it didn’t seem to do much else, and of course I didn’t become addicted.

Oxy was a blessing for me. I have suffered with arthritis since my late thirties. I have used almost every opioid available over the past ten years. Over time, they will lose their effectiveness and I would have to switch to another formulation. Oxy was the best at minimizing my pain. Unfortunately, I lost my job last March and with it, my insurance. I’m now using Indian healthcare, and the strongest paid med the will prescribe is Tramodol. It’s little more than aspirin.

I never took any med more than was prescribed. I had been taking 30 mg of morphine 3 times a day, and when that quit working for me, I just weened myself off it. Some of us can take these meds without becoming addicted.
