WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump signed an order on Monday that will seek to dramatically pare back federal regulations by requiring agencies to cut two existing regulations for every new rule introduced.

"This will be the biggest such act that our country has ever seen. There will be regulation, there will be control, but it will be normalized control," Trump said as he signed the order in the Oval Office, surrounded by a group of small business owners.

Trump's latest executive action will prepare a process for the White House to set an annual cap on the cost of new regulations, a senior official told reporters ahead of the signing.

Trump has just eclipsed Reagan when it comes to cutting regulations.

Trump needs to get ex-Sen George McGovern (onetime prez candidate) to comment on this.

BACKSTORY---McG decided to buy a hotel in retirement to have a reliable income....but had to declare bankruptcy.

His hotel simply could not keep up w/ the regulations HE passed.....and still remain solvent.

McG said, at the time it seemed like a good idea for the Senate to regulate this and that.....but that he had no idea the burdens this placed on small businesses like his.

A good start. However rather than reducing regulations it actually just incentivize the bureaucrats to never introduce a new regulation so they can keep all the ones they have now. That’s a win but not as much as I want because the current slate of regs is enough for them to stifle everything already. A year from now Trump will probably have to issue a second one that says “cut two thirds of all regulations now” when he sees that none are actually gone.

Would’ve been better if it was an EO that put a hold on all regulations for a certain number of days.

They wil just cram everything into huge new rules and eliminate rules already contained in the new rule.

They are socialist libs, you know they will do this.

The other problem is it gives the bureaucrats the choice of getting rid of innocuous or even good regulations in place of their new more contorted and or tyrannical rules.

Cutting tax rates usually gets all of the attention when talking heads discuss Reagan’s economic program. You’d think that Reaganomics consisted of nothing more than that.

Most people don’t know that slashing bureaucratic over-regulation was an equally important plank in the Reagan economic program. Over-regulation is what had been handcuffing our energy production, to the great benefit of OPEC.

Regulatory overreach may be more harmful to the country than high tax rates, because regulation usually goes unnoticed except to those directly confronted by it, but it can affect the economy as a whole.
