Tech Industry Frets Over Possible Immigration Changes

SEATTLE — American technology companies for years have relied on a steady stream of skilled engineers from overseas to help them create their products.

Now many of those companies and their workers are girding for expected changes to immigration policy under President Trump that the companies say could hurt their ability to tap the technical talent they need to stay competitive.

Mr. Trump, who has signed a series of executive orders related to immigration, is expected to soon take similar action on visa programs for foreign workers.

A draft of a proposed executive order on the matter was leaked this week. While it is not clear how the final order will look and the draft contains some changes many in the technology industry support, some language alarmed people in Silicon Valley.

My message to Zuckerberg, Bezos, Page, Schmidt, and all the other liberal tech giants ... "YOU DIDN'T BUILD THAT."

You're worth billions of dollars. American tax payers funded the technology you've made fortunes off of. We've funded NASA, R&D grants to our colleges and universities, education, etc.

If you want talent, invest in our people. Drive through Detroit, Chicago, Camden, NJ, Gary, IN, etc. Do you not believe in these people? Do you not want to help them? If you do, invest your billions in helping train these people.

Like obama and Elizabeth Warren have said, "YOU DIDN'T BUILD THAT." American citizens funded it. We deserve a return on our investment.

This is horse manure. The overseas engineers I have had to work with cannot hold a candle to the Americans they replaced. Their only superior quality is the willingness to work much cheaoer.

But you get what you pay for in the end.

The guiding historical comparison is slavery.
If Tech plantations can’t compete without cheaper, less-privileged labor they have to go.

Agreed. There are some leaks that need to be plugged. There is a recent secret recording of republican senators discussing doing away with obamacare.

They need to flush these dirtbag leakers out as soon as possible.

The H1B people they hire are no smarter than equally educated Americans. They do however, work for much less money. No sympathy here.

Exactly why they make all their iPhones and other tech devices overseas.

They will just move the development work offshore and continue hiring them in India or China or wherever.

The average IQ in India is 80. The H-1B program used to pull from the far right side of the bell curve, but that supply ran out. The typical H-1B import now has an IQ of around 90, with little talent or skill in their specialty. The H-1B program has morphed from a brain supply into a corporate cheap labor program. Whole departments are now staffed 95% by single ethnicity non-citizens.
