“Is this much different from wikileaks publishing documents from the DNC.”

That’s exactly what liberals were hoping to ask, if someone took the bait.

The set-up, or trap, was this leak of innocuous talk behind Republican closed doors.

The hope was that Republicans would cry foul.

The payoff would be the liberals’ golden opportunity to contrast the indignation with the Wikileaks revelations of private communications that really did reveal Democrats’ subversive illegal collusion and conspiracy.

Since no one took the bait, it was only a matter of time before someone floated the secondary balloon for the liberals.

We all owe a debt of appreciation to Songwriter.

Well, that shows just how unprepared the Republicans had been. If their intentions were to abolish it, then they should have started discussing ways to accomplish that. Lacking that tells me that they were never really serious about abolishing it. Instead it was just something they bantered around to cajole the base into giving them more power.

But that is the Republicans MO. Tell the people one thing while they really have no concern about following through. The gotcha is the fact that the Republicans are as clueless as the Democrats claim they are. They are neither serious nor sincere.

they should have it at Camp David.

They should have their meetings in Washington. Why did they go to Philadelphia?

The parade of horribles are Democrat talking points. True to form, the Republicans fulfill their duty to implement the Democrat agenda. "Any thing you can do I can do better" is their motto.

They still have not learned. They had better get their act together PDQ.

Wow. I am underwhelmed at the GOP comments.

Are we seriously considering this to be a problem?

Isn’t the issue in such situations who did the recording, not what was said?

This must be fake news because this sounds like the Watergate burglary and we know how that turned out.

If either of you were members of Congress, I guarantee your constituents wouldn’t put up with you if you didn’t set things right.

Millions upon millions of people have paid into Medicare only to see an enormous sum transferred to the ACA. Now it needs to be transferred back, which means there needs to be replacement legislation for the executive branch to carry out.

I don’t pretend to have read all that the members are deliberating, but I know this. One can’t just repeal ACA and walk away. You have to clean up the mess that Obama left behind. And for that, a plan needs to be passed in the form of legislation. Try and see it in that light.

I don’t see demoscum setting the terms of debate. I see Donald J. Trump setting the tone and terms, because he’s the one that will be signing it. Try seeing the bigger picture in that light.

You’re Welcome.

Great points. Thanks.

If they were serious for the last 6(?) years since 0vomitcare passed, they would have had a plan to dismantle it already in place, starting the day that it passed. Perhaps numerous plans. They act as if the whole idea just dawned on them.

Maybe this is due to a serious lack of leadership. This is the kind of behavior you see when there is no one in charge and no one brave enough to take charge. A bunch of people milling around, hoping for someone else to take over and make the first move. That way they can never be blamed for anything. But if things go well, they can always jump on the bandwagon when it looks safe.

(When I find myself in a situation like that, I take charge. It’s amazing how relieved people are to be told what to do. “You! Call 911. You! Help me stop the bleeding.”)

Just how stupid are these people to hold meetings at a Hotel and not have it swept for listening devices? Have everyone frisked devices, no phones in the room.

Just common sense security.

I hope Trump is very very careful in any room with anyone when he talks with his people or GOP.

The "requirement" that there be a replacement simultaneous with repeal is a Democrat talking point. The Republicans have bought into this 100%, the Democrats have set the terms of debate.

There is no reason that repeal of ACA must coincide with a replacement plan. None.

The current enrollment period began November 1, 2016. In ends January 31, 2017. Enrollment lasts for a year, at which time you can change your plan or re-enroll.

January 31, 2017 can be the last day anyone can enroll in ACA, there will be no enrollment period in November 2017. That degree or part of repeal can be done today.

Regarding legislation to return to Medicare the money looted from it, the timing of that legislation is not contingent upon legislation ending any further enrollments. There is no reason why this can not be done in the near term. They've had years to prepare, they should be able to produce something within the next few weeks.

Really now?

It’s one thing to be mistaken, it’s a whole different thing to be stuck on mistaken.

I guess according to you, the President should shutter the White House because the republicans are out butt sniffing the democrats.

And according to you the tens of millions of people that have paid into medicare will have no medical care because the democrats are in control and Donald Trump has retreated to Trump Tower in Manhattan.

That’s some real insight you got there sparky!

These kinds of problems are naturally going to come to be when the federal gov’t involves itself in something that is wholly unconstitutional. It has no right to be involved in any way, in the matters of the health care of private citizens seeking to purchase health care.

If it weren’t for “insurance”, we wouldn’t need “insurance”.

I am old enough to remember when doctor’s visits were $5 and there were NO insurance papers or procedures. Cash for services, no “insurance” middle man markup. The poor relied on charities, and that was the end of it.

Simple, constitutional solutions work every time.

Just who do you think you’re talking to?

You have no experience in legislation. That is OBVIOUS!

> “That degree or part of repeal can be done today.”

Ok, sooooooo say the members repeal it TODAY or Monday, whatever.

> “Regarding legislation to return to Medicare the money looted from it, the timing of that legislation is not contingent upon legislation ending any further enrollments.”

Sooooo you suggest repeal it and let Medicare kinda sorta be ignored until later.

Did it occur to you that the enormous pot of Medicare funds that is in ACA have to be put somewhere? Are you saying that happens by some sort of magic trick?

Does it occur to you that hospitals, clinics, practitioners might not work for free to care for Medicare beneficiaries?

Are you suggesting that Medicare payments be suspended until Congress kinda sorta gets some sort of plan together or something?

> “There is no reason why this can not be done in the near term. They’ve had years to prepare, they should be able to produce something within the next few weeks.”

Do yourself a favor. Don’t quit your day job.

So you are suggesting that ACA be repealed and that the republicans sit it out what to do next?

Again, they have been promising this for years. What this tells me is that it has always been nothing more than talk. If they had been honestly thinking about eliminating it then they would already have put together a working outline to eliminate it. They have had years now to do this. Once again they are great about making promises to get our votes, but then they have to take another decade to implement something? That is unacceptable and why things never get done anymore. Kick the can down the road and let someone else deal with it. So, sorry I am not thanking you at all. 8>) I have already thought about what the problems could be, and it isn't even my task.

But it really shouldn't be that hard. Allow for medical savings plans. Allow competition across states. Allow for customized plans. A lot of people are paying for things they will never need.
