Karina's story: Why the pro-life movement matters
Las Vegas Review-Journal ^ | Jan 26, 2017 | Victor Joecks

A moment of indecision kept Karina from becoming a statistic.

Seeking but never receiving love from her mother, she left home at 17 in a tailspin. “I started cutting myself,” Karina said. “I worked, but I did drugs. I drank every day. I didn’t care about my life.”

Fearing she might be pregnant, Karina went to a drugstore. There she stood, facing a shelf of pregnancy tests but unable to acknowledge reality by selecting one. Sensing her situation, a woman approached and gave her a card for the Women’s Resource Medical Center, a Las Vegas nonprofit that offers free pregnancy tests and free ultrasounds for women experiencing unplanned pregnancies. ...

Most women don’t seek abortion because they’re empowered. They consider abortion in desperation, because they feel powerless.

Victor, thank you for this article and bringing attention to the wonderful Women’s Resource Center.

I have been privileged to know some of the awesome women who work and volunteer there. The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Nevada State Court has been a supporter of this center for many years, holding an annual baby shower for them every Christmas, which brings in a truckload of donations of diapers, toiletries, clothing, handmade blankets, booties and hats, and gently used car seats.

I encourage all pro-life FReepers in Las Vegas to look into how they can help the center. It’s one of the few places where women get not only the material and pre-natal/post natal help they need, but spiritual nourishment if they are open to it.

I am watching the March4Life now and so encouraged that our new Vice President, Mike Pence, and his beautiful wife Karen were there to speak.

What a contrast between those there today to stand up for the most vulnerable and defenseless in our world and the angry, bitter women who marched last week.

May God look with great love upon the faithful who hear His voice and act and bestow HIs blessing on their mission.

There are two unanswered questions, where is the father of the child? Why do women have to raise kids by themselves?
