This guy is coming up for reelection against someone that is way more leftist and radical. He is stuck between a rock and a hard place. That’s always been the problem with Mexico, radicalism and corruption. We should have never allowed them to take advantage of us the way they did for so many years. Trump is going to have to teach them who is the top man on the totem pole.

I was shocked years ago when I worked at a place that had a money transfer machine. All the customers were mostly Mexicans sending money home. This had to be at least 15 years ago.

Wow, we’re dealing with a Narco owned Mexican president. No deals with Narcos.

Let’s face it, politicians in Mexico are corrupt to the core and American politicians aren’t much better, if any. It doesn’t surprise me in the least that Pena-Nieto’s campaign was financed - at least in part - by shell companies connected to the Juarez Cartel.

One needs only look at the assassination of Luis Donaldo Colosio (a populist candidate for president) in 1994, the connection of the assassin to Jorge Hank-Rhon (see links below), the Hank family’s ownership - direct and indirect - of dozens of such shell companies, their as-yet-”unproven” connection to drug trafficking and their well-known (among some) connection to some very recognizable American politicians - including the Bush family) to understand that this is only scratching the surface of the depth of cross-border political corruption.

Move: Pena-Nieto wants the embassies and consulates to protect “migrants”.

Counter-move: Trump closes consulates.

We should just prohibit electronic remittance of funds back to Mexico. If they want to send money back home, they have to take it back in person.

I feel like I am watching an expert manipulator (Trump) set people up by making them do predictable things and then he just comes through and makes them feel like a fool.

Brier Fox, please don't throw me in the Briar Patch.

Trump told the world that Mexico would pay. Trump set up an early meeting with Mexico's leader. Trump told the ABC interview that we would front the money as a “gotcha.” He probably had a plan to make Mexico pay when he said that to create a controversy and get publicity.

He then dared the Mexican President to cancel the meeting. Challenge stupidly accepted. Mexican peso falls in value. Trump announce punitive tax. Now the next step will be up to Mexico. I expect them to come back and figure out someway to make nice. They have far too much to loose.

What is really interesting is the domino effect this is likely to create with the next country that Trump decides to negotiate with.

I would wager that once the military has a plan in place to destroy much of the Iranian navy and Guard, that Trump will start negotiating with Iran. They will respond with some kind of small boat naval attack on a US Navy ship and Trump will release all hell on Iran and continue to destroy their military until they beg for peace and a truce. I expect that the Iranian nuclear deal will be revised at that time.

I can't wait to see how he dismantles the education teachers unions.

That explains a lot. I watched the documentary “Carteland”. Vigilante groups armed themselves to stop the cartels, who are as grotesque as ISIS - killing babies, ect. The government stepped in and said it was dangerous for private citizens to be armed - in reference to the vigilante groups! The government seemed hell bent in maintaining the dominance of the cartels. I had no idea that they helped install the President.

And he wasn’t the most radical candidate. Won with 38%. Up again in 2018.

The Mexican people are actually very friendly and like us, but I think the big problem is that the political class in Mexico has really destroyed the country.

Oh, you mean the very tiny group of highly-entrenched oligarchs that run Mexico.
