Do you think Donald Trump is just Mike Pence’s puppet?
Interesting idea, right? Particularly since the very idea would make our new president totally nuts. Hehehehe.
And it’s possible. Trump is not a man who concentrates on policy issues. So far, the parts of the job that have obsessed him most are crowd size and vote size. And yeah, the wall. But there has to be somebody behind the scenes deciding the non-ego questions. Pass the word that it’s Pence.
The best early evidence is reproductive rights. Not an issue Trump seemed all that interested in during the campaign — you generally had to sort of poke him to bring it up. Yet one of the first things he did as president was to sign an order that will eliminate American aid to international health programs that provide information on abortion.
Every Republican president since Ronald Reagan has issued the order, which is often referred to as the global gag rule. But Trump’s seems much worse. The Reagan-Bush-Bush version covered family planning programs. Trump’s targets global health in general.

I’d have no problem with Pence in charge, but the thought of Trump not being his own boss is risible.

Mike Pence isn’t known for being against illegal immigration.
First of all, I think it’s the idea of Trump being ANYBODY’s puppet is demonstrably absurd.
Second of all, where was the concern when Obama was Valeri Jarrett’s puppet (which he was, by all accounts).

In the team of Bush and Dubya, Cheney was supposed to be the puppetmaster, and perhaps he was. In the team of Pence and Trump, no such master and servant relationship exists.
Mike Pence is a very good counterbalance to some of the more soaring rhetoric that Donald Trump is fully capable of, not so much by toning it down, but by giving some resonance which makes it more comprehensible to certain mindsets and otherwise intransigent opposition. Those individuals may not be won over, but a lot of the wind is taken out of their sails. And the message does get out to everybody else.
Donald Trump is an uncommonly good judge of people and how to use them.
I expect -- as usual -- a little digging will show this to be another lie.
Gee, when did we ever hear this before? Next thing you know, “gravitas” will be all the rage again.
Throw this argument right back at the liberals and ask them if they’re saying that Mike Pence is so brilliant that he not only orchestrated Trump’s successful campaign but that he’s also made himself the President’s key advisor?
Then they’ll drop it like a hot potato because they NEVER want to make a Republican look like a genius...and that’s what they’re doing here.
As good as Pence is, he is the student, Trump is the headmaster.
