It would be great if California did this.

Are you kidding if they all did it the massive house lead we have now would be reflected in the EV. Cali and NY Repub districts would finally be able to contribute where they want their votes to go. Basically the dem votes would only come from the cities.

I actually think this is a good idea. It gives candidates an incentive to campaign even in states where they are expected to lose badly.

I’m sure someone has done this, but.....

What would the EV results have been if ALL states did this?

There is a LOT of red in that map.

IF we get a handle on voter fraud, I don't think there's anything they (satanic, liberal ideology) can do to stop us.

Why not? Maine’s Second Congressional district, 80% of the state, went for Trump.

This is in DIRECT reaction to the fact that Trump came within a hair of taking MN. Only Minny early voting saved MN for Cankles.

I think it’s the right answer.

From NY Mag:

“Not coincidentally, such a system would have awarded the presidency to Romney, who won 226 House districts against Obama’s 209 (Romney also won 28 states to Obama’s 22, which under the system Republicans are pushing, would have given statewide winners two bonus EVs).

As it happens, the EV-by-CD system would not have reversed the 2016 outcome, but would have, interestingly enough, reduced Trump’s electoral vote total from 304 to 293. That’s a product of the unusual number of electoral votes Trump harvested from very close wins in very big states. That’s likely why GOP legislators in some of those same states have not revived the idea so far this year.”

The states are certainly free to do so, but it just makes them less important in the election. It may be worth campaigning for Minnesota’s 10 electoral votes. It is not worth campaigning for 1 or 2 electoral votes per Congressional district.

On the other hand, I am all in favor of reliably Democrat states doing so. Rather than all of their electoral votes going to the Democrat, at least some will go to the Republican.

It would be stupid for any Republican states to do so.

Why would democrates in a blue state want to do this? It would only give more EC votes to the opposing party.

As long as it is blue states doing this, it’s a win for us.

May be the only way a conservative or Republican is going to get anything out of MN...and since VA is so blue, may be true in Virginia, too.

Your opinion??? Did you ever look at a map of congressional districts across the USA?

We won 5-1 in this past election and if they ever did this nationwide, the demonRATS would get beat 400 to 100 and the other 35 would float, depending on the election cycle.

Trump won 56 of 62 counties in NYS and about 6 CDs.

Careful what you wish for...If Minn did earlier, that would have given Trump even more EVs.

Look at the red counties map of the past few elections and consider the population of the House of Representatives. The EC votes would have gone Republican for POTUS and we never would have had to endure obummer-the-narcissist.

I like this because then we have a congressional district level of firewall against voter fraud. If we didn’t have the electoral college then presidential elections would turn on competition between political machines to invent the most votes and the big cities they thrive in would completely dominate elections. With the current Electoral college apportionment system the fraud in one city like Philadelphia is limited to only swaying the state of Pennsylvania. The EC system creates state level firewalls against fraud. On this system of congressional district apportionment then the fraud is firewalled at the district level so dirty voting precincts have the potential to sway at most 3 EVs (the district and the 2 statewide). With that firewall in place the dirty precincts in places like Philly could invent 10 votes for every citizen and only add at most 2 votes to the Democrats instead of the 20 they currently influence. That has the effect of taking a lot of corruption out of the system because it just isn’t worth the trouble except in the close districts- where there is also enough presence of the other party to make it difficult.
