15 billion for 700 miles of wall = 21.4 million per mile. That’s 4,000 dollars a foot for a wall. That’s one heck of a wall.
I think you can build a monorail or even an Interstate highway cheaper per mile.
What would be interesting is using recycled materials yet still have a barrier resistant to a moderate physical attack.
I do not think it will all be the same, in some areas it will have to be deep, thick and tall, in others just several layers but with immediate responce teams station nearby. or using remote equipment.
Myself if i were tasked with a thinking of how to breach it i would go to Korea and find some NORK tunnel experts.
#12, Come on guys Trump is smarter than that. This cost most likely also includes sensors above and below grade, arial Drones and Survellance Systems. That stuff gets costly.
What I would like to be involved in is the operation of a 200,000 Megawatt Lazer mounted to a remote controlled drone to take out the vermin as they try to scurry around the obsticles.
“Thats 4,000 dollars a foot for a wall”
I’m guessing there will be billions spent on “domain” issues for using private land...I also think Trump will come down hard on any overt pork ... he has a perfect set up here...Congress give him $12 billion...he gets it done for $9 billion...On time and under budget!!
Its not just the length, it is the engineering and the obstacles. It is also for buying private property at fair value, when needed.
In the mountain regions, the wall may have to detour to the USA side a bit, yet still allow access for citizens. There are plenty of known and as yet unknown reasons that a border wall could cost upwards of $15Mil.
It will not be “just a wall” or it would be ineffective. It will have to include technology and the construction of it will have to be designed with security in mind, it would more closely compare to a prison perimeter which I am sure are pretty expensive to build. The cost of building in remote areas and areas with terrain that makes building very difficult also has to be a huge part of the equation.
I have no idea of what a fair cost would be, but I am sure with President Trump’s background in construction he has a great understanding and will know if the costs are fair.
