Emanuel: Federal help welcome, but National Guard out of the question
Chigaco Tribune ^ | 01/25/2017 | By John Byrne and Hal Dardickā€¢

Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Wednesday welcomed federal assistance to help stem Chicago violence but rejected the idea of the National Guard patrolling the city as "antithetical" to the trust he's trying to build in law enforcement.

The mayor's comments came after President Donald Trump on Tuesday evening took to Twitter to suggest he would "send in the Feds!" if Chicago doesn't "fix the horrible 'carnage' going on."

The president's tweet, however, did not specify what form that could take. At a Wednesday press briefing, White House spokesman Sean Spicer didn't respond directly when asked whether Trump was talking about deploying National Guard troops to Chicago.

"There's no one thing," Spicer said. "There can be aid, if it was requested up through the governor through the proper channels that the federal government can provide on a law enforcement basis. But there's other aid that can be extended as well through the U.S. attorney's office or other means that will ensure the people of Chicago have the resources to feel safe. That's what he means. And part of it is that no American, whether or not you live in Chicago or Nebraska, shouldn't feel like you can walk down the streets of a city in this country and fear for your life. And I think too often that's happening in Chicago."

At City Hall, Emanuel said the National Guard "has nothing to do with public safety" and that he was "against it, straight up."

Finally, the Fairy Princess speaks.

Who cares what he says? He is useless and incompetent.

This bothers me....

Aid. As in money. Remember the 1.8 million Obama gave to Baltimore to behave? It didn't work there and it sure as hell won't work in Obammieville.

Trump should make a big deal about helping without saying what will be done, than promote the repealing of all firearms laws nationwide as the assistance.

There are many other cities with higher Murder Rates than Chicago.

Let the cities take care of their problems without the Feds.

Well, they could send in the VA Police and the Social Security Police and the Park Service Police for a start.

President can nationalize NG anytime it is thought to be necessary to restore order and render assistance.

Yes it is. Recall during Katrina the Louisiana was relevant to call them in. Bush couldn’t do it. Posse commitatus.

Send in the FBI to investigate from the top down.
They don't need troops in the ground.
The problem is non-enforcement of law and corruption, the Hood is the victim here.
Cooked politicians, prosecutors and lawyers need to swing.
Troops just result in a war with those who have little options.

I’m sure he’ll accept all the “help” he can get as long as that help is exclusively in the form of pallets of Benjamins.

DJT federalizes the Il Nat Guard and its out of Rahms hands entirely. Just like Ike did to Orval Faubus in 1954 in AR. In fact, I suggest that he does just that to remind the Rahmster who’s the boss.

If President Eisenhower (R) could send the 101st Airborne Division to Little Rock and make Democrats behave in 1957, why shouldn’t President Trump (R) send the 101st Airborne Division to Chicago and make Democrats behave in 2017?

OH YES twinkle toes. We can “AID” you. A lot more DEA agents and FBI agents and DHS agents while the AG starts investigations into your corruption.

The drugs going into Chicago are comming from where? We will just expand the investigation a little more thats all. And you will get to watch from your jail cell.

We'll take the money, but no troops.
We don't want the problem fixed, we want more gun control.

Sending in NG is bailing out the liberals. Further it gives them targets to blame for all that goes wrong.

Take away the money and let things collapse on the liberals. They want to stay in power. And breathing.

BTW there are exceptions to the Posse Comitatus law that DJT could use to federalize the NG. “The Enforcement Acts, among other powers, allow the President to call up military forces when state authorities are either unable or unwilling to suppress violence that is in opposition to the constitutional rights of the people.” Say Chicago opposition to the 2nd Amendment, perhaps?
