I’d be happy to visit a brewpub I knew was lefty/feminist-free. He should use it.

The government did not create the blacklists, Red Channels was a private publication.

I have a copy of Red Channels: The Report of Communist Influence in Radio and Television (New York: American Business Associates, 1950). In addition to listing Communists and fellow-travelers in the media and entertainment industry, it recounts how Communists created their own blacklist of non-Communists.

Their beer sounds tasty. If I find any around here, I’ll get some.

He spoke his mind and was free to do it, now some people that disagree with him may choose not to buy his product, as they are free to do. Did you hold the same attitude about what happened to the Dixie dips or other liberal groups and companies that Christians and Conservatives chose to boycott. If he is so contrite now maybe he should have thought before he ranted if he wasn’t prepared to pay the price for his convictions. You can’t have it both ways.

Thanks for the book title. Never heard of it. Interesting. Just checked Amazon. Red Channels. $175. Any suggestions where to get a copy? Thanks.

Mariner, I live about a mile from the Twelve Rounds Brewing Company, and drive past it every day on my way to work. While Sacramento is a pretty moderate city, they chose to put their business in the city’s most liberal neighborhood.

No, the Bee was not trying to hurt the business; they were merely reporting a local story, as did the TV stations here. What made the story notable was the large size of the backlash.

Yes, because of its location, the business *did* have plenty of customers of the pussy-hatted ilk, and they were glad to take anybody’s money. I drove by yesterday, the place was a ghost town, and for once, there were no cars parked on that side of the street.

Of course, the guy’s timing couldn’t have been worse for him to shoot a hole in his own boat. When people saw his Facebook post, they then dug deeper on his Facebook page, and found a bunch of all-muslims-want-us-dead, Obama-is-a-muslim stuff, and reposted it, causing even more of a storm.

Unfortunately, Red Channels seems to have become a collector's item, so unless you happen on it at a collector's show or swap meet, be prepared to shell out some bucks. However, it is available at some libraries, usually in special collections. A Worldcat database search can show you the libraries where it can be found. The search to which I have linked begins with the libraries in my area, but you can find the libraries in your area by typing your zip code into the "enter your location" box at the lower left-hand side of the page.

There’s no room for Archie Bunker in that neighborhood sad to hear. I bet this guy was so busy with his beer and business that he didn’t understand how his personal rants would destroy his business.

In real America you can speak your mind without a mob attack. Not so much in California.

Oh really, seems to me I hear about little fracases all over the U.S. for people speaking their mind. The point is it is hypocritical to slam liberals for boycotting those they disagree with when those on the right have been doing it too. The owner of the brewery should have held his twitter fingers a minute and thought about the consequences of his free speech, it’s a little to late to be concerned about the response after the fact.
