If you live in a solid-red conservative community, you may not fully appreciate how much courage it took for Donald Trump to run the kind of campaign he ran. As controversial as Trump may have appeared on television, the scorn he received from the media and the Washington establishment was likely nothing compared to what he encountered in New Yorks elite social circles. Try being a moderate conservative in Manhattan. Now try being the kind of conservative that Trump has become. You wont find it easy.
But that kind of courage served him well, and it will continue to do so. If anyone was nervous that Trump would lose his nerve that he would soon be crushed and compromised by the entrenched political club in Washington the new president offered some words of comfort in his historic inaugural address. There, standing in front of some of the most powerful people in the nation, Trump made it clear that his loyalties lie with the American people.
Today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another, or from one party to another but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the American People, Trump said. For too long, a small group in our nations Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered but the jobs left, and the factories closed.
Its one thing to make this speech in Orlando or Houston; its quite another to make it on the steps of the Capitol, right in front of the very politicians hes condemning. For all of the clapping and the forced smiles, there were a great many lawmakers in attendance who want nothing more than to see this president fail spectacularly. Some of them belong to his party.
And he damn well knows it.
It would be very easy for Trump to spend the next four years in cruise control. Let Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell figure out what they want to do. Let them know that hell sign whatever they want. Spend the rest of the time tweeting and holding rallies. No problem. More than a few conservatives would probably be thrilled if Trump handed the reigns off to Mike Pence and constrained himself to public relations. Many liberals think thats exactly what hes going to do.
But if there was little reason to believe that prior to Trumps inauguration, there is even less reason to believe it today. In his speech, Trump did not sound like Paul Ryan. He did not sound like Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush or Mitt Romney or any other beloved conservative. He sounded like Donald Trump a man who got elected not because of the Republican Party, but in spite of it.
Trumps ideology is not conservatism its common sense. Its not liberalism its dealmaking. Its not politics its problem-solving.
On Friday, he stood in front of this nations ruling class and declared war. That takes guts. That takes the heart of a warrior. Thats what America now has in the White House.
Washington, beware.
He is a real man of courage. I think, no I know, the millions of prayers helped. God heard and answered them. Just my $.02.
I thought it was a great speech. And it was predictable that the media would portray it as “dark”. They have no substantive case to make against a patriotic president.
The speech was riveting, breathtaking in its repudiation of all the political class stands for.
After all, the politician who most clearly serves Lucifer, the Light Bringer, is Obama. Rhetoric that contrasts with his would seem dark to his followers.
The speech reflected President Trump’s campaign. Now he needs to deliver.

“He did not sound like Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush or Mitt Romney or any other beloved conservative. He sounded like Donald Trump a man who got elected not because of the Republican Party, but in spite of it.”
Based on both his cabinet picks and stated policies, he is solidly conservative - and that is what actually matters. He may waver from that at times, but I expect he’ll do just fine. If he only manages half of what he’s promised, he’ll still be 1000x better than 0.
Hell,it was hard in my suburban ‘mostly white’ country club.
I agree.
In a lot of ways, Trump reminds me of Harry Truman...himself, NOT a DC insider.
Truman didnt mince words or pander to anyone, AND he publicly scorned anyone who expected it from him. His vocabulary was limited and acerbic. His delivery was blunt, direct and unsophisticated.
No problem... People GOT it!! Neither his message nor intent escaped anyone!
For sure, he has a long way to go to surpass Truman... but if Trump is not a silver tongue devil and if his delivery is brusque and maladroit... that does not make him WRONG.
The Americans and especially the MSM need to grow up and remind themselves that facts are paramount!
No amount of blatant logic-chopping, incessant evasiveness, personal charm, long-practiced razzle-dazzle will turn illogical, unworkable wrong-headedness into the truth.
Decades ago, and because of media duplicity, Americans voluntarily and thoroughly habituated themselves to the inauthentic tone and specious content passing for journalism. The MSM has abused their position, instead of fulfilling their duty to inform without bias. Maybe THATS much easier than actually doing their job of research and reporting.
Its time to the basic inescapable, verifiable facts and discuss and deal with them as they are.
“I thought it was a great speech. And it was predictable that the media would portray it as dark.”
That was a racist dog whistle. Didn’t you get the memo?
Common sense Trumps politics.
A hard-working American citizen knocked out the Clinton Crime Syndicate, the Bush cabal, the legions of propagandists in one election cycle. WOOOOOHOOOOO President Trump. Thank you, sir. One of the greatest Americans in the last 200 years.
Against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC.

My first reaction upon reading the text of his speech was, wow, he actually said that in front of all of them. It simply don’t get much better than that. And to any potential Stazi sniper, you will need more bullets. Lots more. Over a hundred million more. And don’t forget body armor and helmets.
Trump selects the most profitable pathway assuming a measured amount of risk. Profits are not only measured with money. Happiness is a profit. Security is a profit. By design or coincidence, it just so happens that 80 % of the time, that pathway is also the conservative pathway. He may choose the liberal pathway 10 % of the time, and the other 10 % may be in the fuzzy middle.
Trump the Torch!
