Gov. Abbott: Travis County Sheriff’s ICE policy frivolous, reckless

Gov. Greg Abbott is doubling down on his stance on how Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez plans on dealing with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. On Friday, Sheriff Hernandez released a statement outlining the policy changes and describing how she will prohibit Travis County deputies and jailers from inquiring about someone’s immigration status.

Gov. Abbott quickly responded in a Tweet by saying he will cut funding for Travis County for adopting “sanctuary policies.” On Monday, Gov. Abbott sent a letter to Sheriff Hernandez stating her actions are “frivolous” and “reckless.” Gov. Abbott goes on to say that Sheriff Hernandez should reverse her decision before it goes into effect on Feb. 1 or risk losing $1.8 million in Criminal Justice Division grant money.

I don’t know about Texas, but in Florida a governor can remove any public official for incompetence, malfeasance or criminal activity..........

This is very good news. It’s time, isn’t it. These sanctuary mayors are out of control. They are getting plenty of encouragement from the left side of the Catholic Church.

The Church is getting millions to host illegals and the refugees, as well, along with other charitable organizations with their hand out for OUR tax money, to aide and abet these illegals and lend hospitality to the Muslim refugees.

Correct. That's where the Rathergate scandal started and where its politics are essentially just as Leftist as Berkeley, CA!

Abbott should get the legislature together and write a law that strips these people of ANY immunity if said criminal invaders are released on the street and commit further crimes.

Soverign Immunity DOES NOT EXIST in the US Constitution, it was MADE UP by the Courts. CONgress could end all of it Nationwide tomorrow.

The Immunity Clause is meant for LEGISLATIVE ACTS, Not CRIMINAL ACTS!

Way to go, Gov. Abbott! Texas taxpayers do not want to support sanctuary cities, even if Austin is the state capital. It’s past time to punish Austin for voting for liberal scum such as Hernandez, who has a checkered past, and the moldy old Congressman Lloyd Doggett.

Given the long sordid history of Travis County's stranglehold on TX politics .... do I need to mention Ronnie Earle .... isn't it high time the rest of Texas decided to move the state government to another friendlier county?

I'll bet the lost revenue from that would be a heck of a lot more than 1% of their County budget!

The Texas AG should immediately open an investigation into her malfeasance and violation of her oath of office as sheriff by refusing to uphold the law and enacting policies that ignore violations of the law. There is no sheriff annulment clause in any legislation.
