I would love to see the U.S. Debt Clock come to a standstill and then start backing up.

That is exactly what I want too. If I moved into a mansion, where I never paid the mortgage but allowed the interest to add up for my kids to repay, and if I then renovated frequently and built stylish but nonessential additions, paying for those with debt to be repaid by my kids, decent people would be disgusted at my conduct. FedGov's spending over the past two decades is no different.
