Trump team touts $8 billion Bayer investment

German-based Bayer AG has committed to President-elect Donald Trump that it will invest $8 billion in American research and development as part of its deal to acquire Monsanto, Trump's transition team said Tuesday.

Incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters that Bayer will also protect all of Monsanto's 9,000 American jobs while creating an additional 3,000 high-tech positions in the country. That agreement, he added, came after Trump met with CEOs from both companies last week.

This whole inauguration fest is looking more and more redundant. Well, except for the arrests that can commence at 12:01 PM EST on Friday.

Usually the new owners clear out the top management and install their own people, so the Monsanto people will be gone..............

Mixed feelings. This combination is pretty much a done deal, but the GMO seeds, pesticides, and who knows what else is all fraught with danger to the American consumer - both directly and indirectly.

But we need the jobs and I hope the 3000 extra jobs will NOT be filled with H1B’s.

As I understand it GMOs aren’t generally allowed into the European market. So notable that it is Bayer buying Monsanto. I take it the plan is just to continue along selling the stuff to lowly non-Europeans.

DU has been complaining for 8 years that Obama needs to call out CEOs and companies on wage inequality, and discrimination, and all sorts of other things. They preferred arresting CEOs but (paraphrased) “at least Obama could use the bully pulpit to harass them and make them do what’s right.”

Now that Trump is doing comparable things, it’s inappropriate for a president to call out specific companies on twitter or even talk directly with them.

As long as the 3,000 new tech jobs are not filled by H-1B’s then it is good news.

Just a historic note, in 1895, the Bayer Company started marketing Heroin as an over-the-counter medication. It was billed as a cough suppressant, a pain reliever, and a non-addictive substitute for morphine. One patent medicine here in the United States, Shiloh’s Consumption Cure, which was made of sweet syrup, alcohol, chloroform, and morphine, started substitution Heroin for the morphine in 1898, and sold it this way until about 1911.

Yeah, a greater supply of food at lower prices is how I define horrid. They are truly anti-capitalists!
