Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed pushed back Saturday on President-elect Donald Trump’s assessment of civil rights leader and U.S. Rep. John Lewis’ district.
In a series of tweets, Reed said: “John Lewis is an American hero & a national treasure. Period. Full stop.
“That PEOTUS Trump would attack Congressman Lewis on MLK Day weekend for “all talk…no action” when he bled to actually “Make America Great” is why far less than half the country supports him at the dawn of his presidency.”
Trump said Lewis’s district was “in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested)” in an early Saturday tweet.
Leaders throughout the metro area voiced their opinions Saturday on the controversy, including Georgia Republicans.

My son recently attended a conference in Atlanta. Yes, it is crime ridden. What John Lewis did 50 years ago has been destroyed by his racial hatred and partisanship since.
Kasim? With a name like that, why am I supposed to care what he thinks about some old racebaiting domestic terrorist?

If they truly wanted to honor King, who had his own issues btw, then they’d work for a smooth transition to a Trump Presidency

The racially gerrymandered “black” districts are a mess and produce the worst Representatives in Congress. Sheila Jackson-Lee (flag on Mars), Hank Johnson (Guam capsizing), Maxine Waters (Socialize your companies) etc, etc.

These minority-majority Districts are a target rich environment for Republican candidates now that Trump’s in charge.
Yes, Lewis is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT untouchable, because he milked a walk some 50 years ago into a lengthy political career.

So, because John Lewis is a “national hero” or has some other superlative status due to his work in the civil rights movement, does that mean he can never be criticized for anything??? Is that really what we are saying???
I think his comments about Trump not being a legitimate president are not only factually inaccurate, but offensive to those of us who understand the constitution and understand that Trump was elected in a constitutional election process. Apparently Mr. Lewis does not honor his own oath of office to uphold the constitution of the United States.
Or perhaps he doesn’t really understand the constitution, and how presidents are elected.
Such comments about Trump being illegitimate can only enflame controversy and political discord. There is no reason for Lewis to have made such inflammatory factually inaccurate statements.
Heck, if Lewis wants to go down that road, we could question how legitimate a congressman he is.
The survivors of the King era have turned his “dream” on its head. Instead of a color-blind society in which content of character matters more than the color of ones skin, all they care about is skin color. Mentioning character content or lack of it is racist to these racists.
But notice how none of them have an opinion of Lewis’s original comment.
