There's no magic pill that will guarantee a happy marriage, unfortunately. It's easy to fall for the beguiling femininity that many foreign girls possess, which is somewhat of a forgotten skill in the US, but they can just as much of an agenda as anyone, and their situation might cause them to be more ruthless than most.
I think the most important thing is to find someone who is absolutely, 100% on the same page religiously and morally, and at least 75% on the same page politically, and go from there. If emotional love is also there, that's a plus.

When we married, my wife was a fanatical anti-communist (of the "let's go lob some molotov cocktails at the dirty bastards" variety), but otherwise an admirer of some of the lower-hanging fruit of the Democratic Party.
After eight years of Obama (and reading all of Ayn Rand's works), she is a staunch Conservative (as I am).
