Someone recently posted a picture of a billboard ad from an attorney which said something like; “Even though you did it, it doesn’t mean you’re guilty.”
Math is clearly not your stong suit. A gallon of OJ based on that label is 1.760 calories. (128 oz in a gallon) / 8 oz serving = 16 servings * 110 calories = 1,760 calories.
Not an urban myth... reasonably rare but certainly this has happened many times before. Up to the point that a proper diagnosis is made, a lot of the sufferers are told they have some type of irritable bowel syndrome.
Not to mention that much citric acid in a day can make for some discomfort in the offloading department, if you catch my drift.
If the problem is that people who have high alcohol content are a danger to others (which is the premise for “drunk driving” laws), then what difference does it make whether she got drunk by drinking alcohol, or because she has a condition?
In either case, she is a danger on the roads because of her condition. Even if she did NOT know this, she’d still be a danger. Knowing this, she is deliberately risking the life of others and then bragging about not being punished for it.
(note: I oppose in general ‘drunk driving’ rules, because we should arrest people who are actually driving dangerously, not based on some predetermined chemical measurement).
Plus, I don’t remember my state’s drunk driving laws saying anything about having to have actually consumed alcohol, they seem based solely on the content of the test.
Anyway, I think if you can get a pass once for this condition, as part of that “pass” you should be required to get one of those breathalizer things on your car, so you can only start the car if you are not currently drunk.
Then maybe she’d stop purposely drinking orange juice just to get drunk and then go driving.
My daughter gave us that same excuse when she came home from a party sick as a dog. She claimed that all she had was orange juice and being she was such a good kid we believed her. Her brother rolled his eyes and said “really?” Years later she told us the truth.
.10 may be legally intoxicated but is NOT Drunk and the stupid .08 has destroyed many lives and enriched many Attorneys/Govt.
You’ve got to be gruel to be chime....
I didn’t even know that a friend of mine even drank orange juice until I saw her sober one time.
Chyme, that is. Death to autocorrect! Plus, I need to preview.
And the tractor seat gave her gonnorhea. Her boyfriend said so.
How many calories are in a gallon of orange juice?
...............
I have some in the fridge (not a gallon). It says 110 Cal per 8 Oz serving. That’s 1760 calories. Per day. And she only skipped one meal to do it.
Like many fruits, Oranges can self ferment and turn alcoholic. I've drunk orange juice that was close to turning and tasted a bit of alcohol. The next day it had turned. Similarly, I have picked up oranges on the ground that have fallen from my orange tree that had definitely fermented and the smell of the alcohol was quite strong.
I never came close to a gallon a day - but I love juices.
Cranberry Juice *especially*, but also orange juice.
My Dr. told me there are too many sugars in it for an old fat guy like me, so I quit.
Shhhh: On my birthday, on Christmas and a couple other days during the year I splurge and drink a glass anyway. :)
Heh, funny.
There was an ad here for a local law firm that ran about a month (or less) on TV that said:
“You may be hurt and not even know it.”
Everyone joked about it - but it quickly went off the air.
16 servings/gal x 110 calories/serving = 1,760 calories/gal
Sure... but auto-brewery syndrome isn't just about foods that are necessarily susceptible to fermentation (although that and some alcohol consumption certainly exacerbates the problem). It's about out of control yeast production in a person's gut which in conjunction with carbohydrates and glucose result in spontaneous ethanol production. Normally, the bacteria keeps the yeast in check but if it can't, the yeast production runs rampant and in cases of this syndrome, the yeast might be 500% more than normal. Here's a recent paper that presents a case study on a 61 year old patient whose situation was resulted with anti-fungals and a low-carb diet.... http://file.scirp.org/pdf/IJCM_2013070411021392.pdf
Those darn Russians!
A day without fermented orange juice is like a day without moonshine
