"I'm curious to see what a country without 20-odd million illegals in it will look like."

It will be very interesting. Remove 20 million, or even half that and watch rents go down and wages go up. Overall health costs will go down. Welfare roles will shrink. The criminal justice system will not be quite so overloaded and crime will go down. Beer and liquor sales will go down, as will legal drug sales. Numbers of school age children will decline, reducing overcrowding all through the education system.

Our problem lies with the caste system in place in Mexico. You have people of Indian heritage and those of SW European. The Indians are lower caste, and are heavily discriminated against in Mexico. That’s why they are so desperate to come here. I have sympathy for them (I live in deep south Texas and most of the TexMex restaurants have staff that don’t speak English. I love the people that work there, but we have to enforce our laws.
I am afraid to eat at places in Brownsville because so many Mexicans there hate Norte Americanos. Whole areas of the town, only a few who speak English. I was trying to find a jobsite and couldn’t find anyone who spoke English. Went to lunch with a Mexican crew (all legal). Didn’t get my food until they were finished eating. They all knew why my service was lousy.
Paybacks are hell.
