FBI, Secret Service plan 360-degree security for inauguration
WTOP ^ | January 9, 2017 | J.J.Greene

— On a bone-chilling Monday morning, agents and technical specialists from the Washington Field Office of the FBI huddled and shifted from foot to foot... in near zero-degree weather as they prepared to demonstrate to the media ... or any organization planning to attack the 2017 inaugural should think twice.

Rhetoric from hostile nation-states, active threats on social media and angry protesters are just part of what authorities are preparing for.

... Hazardous Evidence Response Team, Special Agent Bomb Technicians, the Operational-Medicine Team, the Evidence-Response Team, the Crisis-Negotiations Team and the Special-Weapons and Tactics team gave detailed explanations about their capabilities.

The objective of the presentation, ... was to illustrate to the media they are ready for whatever comes their way on Jan. 20th and “to show informally what each of these teams does both every day and in support of the national special security event.”

... the leadership and agents of the field office are well aware of the severity of the threats facing Washington and the gravity of their response.

There have been 58 inaugurations for 44 Presidents since 1789. After 1998, all have been designated as a “national special security event.” ... deemed to be a potential target for terrorism or other criminal activity ... the U.S. Secret Service is put in charge of event security.

Brian Ebert, special agent in charge of the Secret Service Washington field office told WTOP the agency uses a 360-degree “protective methodology.” He added, “We’re paying attention to the physical, the cyber, the aerial.” ...the SS will use a “robust security perimeter to defend against a number of threats. This will be a multilayered, buffer zone surrounding protected venues as well motorcade routes and of course the parade route.”

That perimeter will also include National Guardsmen and police officers, he said.....

The huge presence of security and the publicity of that security serves as a great deterrent against both domestic and international terrorism.

I think the average FBI agent LOVES Trump and will do their best to protect him.

Maybe that’s why a few people got to the door of the WH under obama.

Those protecting him maybe weren’t all that concerned.

Why show the media what you intend to do for security???

Might as well send detailed instructions to ISIS, HAMAS, LaRaza, BLM, and the Democratic Party...

Me, I hate to see the buzzwords, marketing statements and publicity. We do not even need to hint at the nature and depth of security planning, implementation or technology in use. Suffice it to say, it’s adequate. Anything more is tempting or even informing potential bad actors.

The biggest threat to President-Elect Trump isn’t from hostile nation-states or rogue terrorist organizations. It’s from reality-denying Democrats.

I hope they have a 2 mile perimeter cleared of ANY possible threat. Any attack won’t come from close up. It will come from a distance.

Trump and Pence will be SAFER after the inauguration, true, but with this new breed of feral ‘Alt-Left’ Hillary voters, these two men will always be at high risk. To be a successful and effective republican president in today’s America, requires someone like Donald Trump, a man accustomed to find joy in living to a very candid, very high profile life.

That is precisely how Rolls-Royce used to confidently describe the engine horsepower of their cars, even the fastest models: Adequate
I somewhat wish we made no comment at all on security measures or posture. No need to share.

Just like a lock on the gate. Keep honest people honest so they can focus on the real threats.

I disagree, it makes it seem impenetrable and deter 99% of the random nuts.

Did you know that Santiago-Ruiz had booked a ticket to NYC for NYEve and then changed his mind and settled on shooting up FT.Ldle Airport.

Security was a deterrent -or maybe the cost of the cab ride into the city.

Dylan Roof just was given the DP.

I agree with your take on safety.

Trump seems to have the spine to weather the road ahead.

I thought he would be good, but this is turning out to be crazy good.

If the perception and stature of the United States Secret Service and allied agencies isn’t sufficient deterrent enough, then all the marketing buzzwords and technobragging in the world won’t be, either. They need to just do their jobs quietly and well.

I wanted to go but have to be out of town for work.

My 17 year old son really wants to go but I told him that because of all the planned protests, even if only 10% on the moonbats show up, it’s not a good place for a kid to be.

The youth leaders at church and a couple other adults with some more street smarts are going, so he gets to go.

Your level of perception of the USSS is much deeper than the average leftist outsider to WDC. Read some of the web pages of the anti-groups organizing for the big day.

POTUS is not their direct target. They intend to obstruct and harass all those who attend and create chaos. Some will back-out when they hear that they will not accomplish that goal. If these articles can scare 10-30% of them from showing, it’s well worth the PR.
