A Dairy Queen owner unleashed a racist tirade against a customer. He no longer has a business.
Washington Post ^ | 1/9/17 | Cleve R. Wootson Jr.

The Dairy Queen owner shouting the n-word at Deianeira Ford told her he could say whatever he wanted at his fast-food restaurant — that any accusations and complaints she uttered would fall on deaf ears.

Ford was vindicated two days later, when her Facebook post about the incident provoked outrage so strong that the Dairy Queen in Zion, Ill., didn’t open for business.

But her victory was tempered by something even more troubling that she heard at a protest: Although she was the most vocal victim of the owner’s racism, she was not the first.

This was written in the Washington Post, so my inclination is to not believe the article without independent corroboration.

I’m concerned that the mere accusation is enough to take away a man’s livelihood.

Exactly. Leftwingers have made their bed. Now they can sleep in it.
We could donate our homes, vehicles, and all financial assets to black people.
They would still find a way to call us deplorable racists. So why even engage in a conversation with them?

I believe Dairy Queen did the right thing. I would hope DQ would not be sued since they took strong cation, but they probably will. Bad screening to allow a guy with that attitude be a franchise face for DQ

There are some in that community who would ruin a person's family, livelihood, and reputation purely for sport.

“I’m concerned that the mere accusation is enough to take away a man’s livelihood.”

While it started out as a mere accusation, the Dairy Queen guy doubled down and told the police, that he did drop the N-Word on the woman.

It’s amazing racism, unemployment, homelessness and dead puppies all return to the news by magic.

Just because they call us racists doesn’t mean we have to defend actual racists.

So I can be a leftist, anti Semitic bigot, but I can’t be a racist. Ok. Good to know the rules.

really hard to screen for real racism. just look at the democratic party. you cant blame DQ corporate for this. because it is the Washington post reporting I will with hold judgment of the person because I don’t trust a post on Facebook and I don’t trust the Washington post to do the proper check of the facts before reporting.

I don’t think anyone could defend the DQ guy, as he appears to be a racist and incredibly stupid.

And apparently, Dairy Queen is confident that they can pull his franchise agreement with him.

So your questioning that the Post lied about the cops reinforcing the entire story?

As for the rules, you would have to check your franchise agreement with Dairy Queen.

If the franchise agreement states that they can pull his restaurant for such conduct, he is out of luck.

As a former multiple franchise Dairy Queen owner-operator I am appalled that a businessman would act this way. If he had been under some kind of stress and this was a isolated incident that be one thing but it wasn’t and he admitted it. Clearly he was in the wrong business since Dairy Queen menus and pricing are often designed to appeal to customers who cannot afford to go to the mall, Baskin Robbins, etc. Therefore your customers tend to be ethnic minorities. If he cannot tolerate this then he’s in the wrong business. I’m not a big fan of International Dairy Queen having had my own battles with them (I did say former operator) but in this case I think they acted reasonably. As for International being sued they are probably insulated by franchise agreements and/or a Territory Operator that acts as a buffer.
