Former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice says she supports President-elect Donald Trump s nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) for attorney general.
[Sessions] is a man who is committed to justice and knows that law and order are necessary to guarantee freedom and liberty, she wrote in a Monday letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), according to CNN .
I know that Sen. Sessions will uphold the laws of our great country and will work to ensure that every person here in the United States is given the voice that is deserved, added Rice, who served under former President George W. Bush.
Rice, who is from Alabama, added Sessions has helped stop the prejudice and injustice against the descendants of slaves in their state.
The former of secretary of State and the first African-American woman to hold that role also noted Sessions rallied efforts to award the Congressional Gold Medal to civil rights icon Rosa Parks.
Sessions, who was once a Senate Judiciary Committee member, will face his former colleagues in confirmation hearings scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. The Alabama senators confirmation process has the potential to become one of the most heated fights over Trumps Cabinet picks.
Critics have hammered Sessions over accusations of racial bias and his failed nomination for a federal judgeship more than three decades ago as disqualifying for the nations top law enforcement officer.
Sessions nomination for a U.S. District Court judgeship in 1986 was withdrawn after witnesses testified he had made racially charged remarks, such as calling the NAACP and the American Civil Liberties Union un-American.
Supporters have countered such attacks are scaremongering that ignores Sessions work protecting civil and voting rights as Alabamas former attorney general. Republicans who have served alongside Sessions have praised him, and many say he will receive the simple majority needed for confirmation.
That’s helpful.
Now all he needs in Colin Powell and he is in Like Gen. Flynn.
Who gives a crap what she thinks?
Who cares?
I do.
Ya think maybe Jeff Sessions?
Thank you, Ms Rice. You’re doing the right thing.
And who gives a crap what you think? Sessions will get confirmed. His integrity and competence are unquestioned. He ran unopposed during his last reelection run. Sessions is the most knowledgeable person in Congress when it comes to immigration. Having Bush flaks like Rice endorsing him matters little. The sooner we can rid ourselves of the Bushes and their sycophants, the better. Powell and Rice need to move publicly to the Dem party. They are Democrats in all but name.
he most surely does, but that begs the question of why even have these hearings, just DEEM him Confirmed. It worked for Obamacare and Harry Reid would NEVER allow Republicans to do this sort of grandstanding.
I still don’t understand why McConnell ALLOWS ANY Demonrats on the committee in the first place.
During a press conference this morning, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said John McCain was gracious and a great patriot, while Barack Obama was inspirational and will continue to be. A jubilant Rice added that she was proud of her country it continues to surprise it continues to beat all odds and expectations. She concluded, On a personal note, as an African-American, Im especially proud.
Rice never openly endorsed McCain during the campaign (Secretaries of State traditionally do not engage in partisan conduct). And she offered a less-than-hearty praise for Sarah Palin during the campaign.
Condi must be a racist.
That must be it. :)
The "deemed passed" thing was only mentioned - they didn't actually go through with it (but the fact they would even suggest such a thing spoke volumes). Cabinet appointments have to be confirmed by the Senate - that is mandated by the Constitution. Harry Reid couldn't control any "grandstanding" but it generally did not occur because it is childish and stupid...not a character trait I want among our own party if we can avoid it. Lindsey Graham and company have that going for them.

How is that McConnell's province to "allow" or disallow?

Here is the membership of the Committee. Unbelievable the Democrats would put Al Franken on such a committee...then again I guess it isn’t for them. I wish the other Senator from South Carolina was on there instead for more reasons than one.
HOORAY Condoleezza Rice.
HOORAY Jeff Sessions. Thank you, sir.
Quite a relevant thing to point out here on this thread - I guess you believe that must mean Trump screwed up by appointing Sessions since she has come out to support him in the face of the Left trying to smear his name and reputation with false charges of racism. Do you believe Trump should now withdraw the nomination since Rice has come out to have the nominee’s back after she sees him being smeared?
You saw it, it wasn’t strategic consideration jump-posting like that, it was natural reflexes.
