Mind you, before Election Day, Schumer fully expected that he’d be Senate majority leader right now. He was utterly blindsided by the defeat of Democratic Senate candidates in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Missouri and North Carolina.
The only people dumb enough to believe in the “tradition of the Senate” and that the D’s were not going to repeal the filibuster entirely (because the D’s were going to take the Senate and White House in 2017) are the Republicans in Washington. Restoring the Supreme Court to its proper role by appointing one to three conservative justices is a once in a generation opportunity. The R’s dare not fumble it.
