This insistence in forcing everyone to be artificially "equal" is simply to appease the destructive emotion of envy. Nothing good will come of it.

And they have made the words “fair” and “fair shake” into something nefarious. Our dear departing leader loves to throw those terms around.

There is such a thing as justice, but it is often both imperfect in practice and hard to define. Equality is something employed as a synonymn by those incapable or unwilling to grapple with the messiness of justice.

Forced “equality”, along with “diversity” are just sugar coated terms for communism, aka: equal sharing of misery for the personal benefit of the ruling class.

Equality is one major function in how current western society got to be greater than Islamic Societies. Science and math are largely based on relating independents and dependants through equalities that help to explain and understand things. QED.

Had a gal in Manhattan tell me last week that I was privileged because I was a white man in America.

Because that’s all that matters.

I told her I’ve ha the “privilege” of my pop dying when I was 14. Mom having nervous breakdown. Watching wife fight cancer three times. And just like ALL OF US, many other unfortunate things, as well as, many great things, nephews/nieces being born, now getting engaged, graduating law/medical school, etc.

Life doesn’t care about your color or gender.

But you persevere and overcome.

They just DONT GET IT.

Equality has been a powerfully destructive force on our society. Because of it, laws are passed which force businesses to hire suboptimal employees who end up harming not only the productivity of the enterprise, but also the social and trust structures within it as well.

Truth.

I somewhat disagree.

There should always be equality of opportunity. That can never mean however equality of outcome. THAT is what the SJWs are demanding. If someone wants to achieve a goal, that person deserves to give it his or her best and no more or no less than anyone else. But if that person fails because of personal limitations, he or she should possess the grace to accept it, and move on.

The drive to overcome our limitations has been one of the engines of true human progress. Ironically, so-called "progressives" have done their damndest to destroy that engine in the name of "feelings".

I'm all for equal opportunity. Provided it is acknowledged that it can never guarantee anticipated wealth and success in parity with others. Indeed, it shouldn't be that at all.

“Equal opportunity” exists - that is, a free society gives every member the chance to become what they want to be, if they can find a way to do so (within the law).

“Equal outcomes”, which is the cause of the Social Justice Warrior, cannot exist in a society based on individual liberty and responsibility. It cannot exist in a free society. It can only exist in a society where achievement is punished by confiscation of all gains above the average and redistribution through force of those gains that are stolen from the achievers.

Having said all that, the headline conflates the word “opportunity” with the meaning “outcome”.

Even if there were such a thing as "White privilege," it is not in the jurisdiction of the State to butt in and attempt to eliminate it.

Otherwise, one could also call for State measures to combat "beauty privilege."

What I recently found out was that Government Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) offices does not include helping Veterans applying for jobs under the Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA). Nor could the EEO rep provide who in that organization was responsible for adherence to the VEOA.

Terrific article. I have often said that it’s nonsense to tell kids they ‘can be anything they want to be.’ Utter nonsense. As Clint Eastwood said, “A man’s gotta know his limitations.”

No, it is an attempt to redistribute power by taking it away from those who have earned it and giving it to those who don’t deserve it.

It is the dialectical wedge wielded by marxists everywhere.

Equality has been a powerfully destructive force on our society

The United States Constitution was written and ratified "to secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and to Our Posterity"

Once you grasp that "Liberty" and "Equality" are antonyms, a lot of things become more clear.

In all fairness, he under-defines “equality of opportunity”.

A proper definition takes three things into account.

The first thing is a term from economics: “opportunity cost”. It basically means that you have enough money for a choice among several choices. To make a choice means that you cannot make the other choices. Opportunity costs happen frequently in life, and this is where individuality comes to the fore.

Your judgment takes into account who you are, and what you think of your own abilities, not just your desires, but your assessment that your choice is *reasonable*, from your point of view.

The second factor in “equality of opportunity” is this, your self definition. If you see yourself clearly, you can not just imagine your capabilities, but also your limitations. The opportunity is still there, but you do not consider it as a choice, because you do not imagine yourself achieving much with this choice.

The third factor is the downside to all this. “Equality before the law”, and the interference of others in choices you want to make. Equality before the law is the rule book to choice. Optimally it equalizes people with the social contract: your opportunities are limited to legal choices.

The interference of others in your choices is the opposite of equal opportunity. It implies coercion. If you choose to be an artist, but your parents demand you become a doctor, you are denied your just equality of opportunity if you are obedient to them.

Likewise, if a supporter of President Trump walks into restaurant while wearing a “Make America Great” hat, and they refuse to serve him, they are denying his equality of opportunity.

When our kids were young we would occasionaly hear, “That’s not fair.” when one would get something the other did not. I would respond, “It may not be equal, but it is fair.” In time, they got it.

I am one of those who believes that IN GENERAL life is fair. Not always but in general it is. It is not equal but it is fair.

Also told my kids, if you want to be rich, do what rich people do. If you want to be poor, do what poor people do.
Not that complicated.
