Joe Arpaio and his outsized ego and self-promotion eventually wore down many of his strongest supporters over the years - not because of his policies, his fearless standing up to the PC crowd, or his tough on crime methods...
Rather, a consensus just grew over time that the 84 year old Sheriff has long since passed his “sell by” date and needs to retire. If Joe had seen and accepted that fact himself, he could have stepped down on his own as a winner, and he could have helped a more like-minded and conservative Sheriff get elected to carry on in his place. However, in the end it was more about Joe himself and his ego than it was, to him, about the cause.
Ya gotta know when to fold...
